Thirty-four percent of students who applied for admission to CCs Class of 2007 have been accepted, making the class the second most selective in CC history. The accepted students have a strong academic profile and represent one of the most diverse admitted classes, with 18 percent domestic students of color.
On Monday, April 14, many accepted students, families and friends will visit campus for the first of two Open Houses. Students of color are invited to a Spring Preview Weekend April 12-13, prior to Open House.
CC received 4,392 applications for admission to the Class of 2007, a 12 percent increase over last year. Martha Merrill 84, dean of admission and financial aid, attributed the strong admission picture to the colleges continued reputation as an engaging community for interdisciplinary learning where students can participate in shared governance and international opportunities.
Merrill expects enrolling students will number a little over 500, with a total enrollment goal between 1,835 and 1,840. (Enrollment averaged 1,835 this year.) The admitted students come from 36 nations, 42 U.S. states and the District of Columbia; 58 percent hail from outside of New England. Fifty of the 1,498 accepted students are foreign citizens. Overseas, Turkey (10), Bulgaria (4) and Korea (3) produced the most offers of admission; the international contingent also includes scholarship recipients from Colombia, Ghana, Israel, Pakistan, Tanzania and Vietnam.
Of those ranked by their high schools, 60 percent are in the top 10 percent of their classes and 86 percent are in the top 20 percent. Median SAT-I scores for accepted students who submitted them were 690 verbal and 670 math.
The second Open House will take place on Monday, April 21. Admitted students have until May 1 to accept CCs invitation to attend.
