I think this has been blown way out of proportion here at Bragg.

This happened in the middle of the night at the barracks, away from the family housing where children might have seen them.

In retrospect I'm sure he realizes that this wasn't a smart thing to do, but I have attended countless military balls where outrageous stuff occurs all the time with the post commanders looking on.

I think these guys were just blowing off some steam and the punishment is too harsh in my opinion.
