Hey Freepers I have been asking how we can thank the people of poland for their great support during operation Iraqi Freedom. I have a reply below you need to read and act on... Especially if you are a teacher! They need pen pals...

Original message by Matthew Paul regarding Message from our friends at the Polish embassy received 2003-04-05 20:26:58 Hi,

Thanks very much for your reply and open heart. I do appreciate it. As far as products are concerned there’s little I can do. I am 35 and I am teacher of English as a foreign language and I work in a Polish High School (we call it Gimnazjum – children from 13 – 16yo). (Do not worry! I’m not a nut like those ones from “Another brick in the wall” by Pink Floyd). Well, in fact, we could do something really significant. Since the fall of the communism my country has been continually trying to find its place in the world. It’s not easy, you know. After 45 years of Soviet occupation we inherited a devastated economy, old and rickety industry and mental wounds that will take generations to cure. I have always wondered why America didn’t support us in 1990 with another “Marshal Plan”. In fact we were left on our own with no better prospects for the future. Enormous unemployment, low revenues,... and so on, and so on. Young people are depressed and worried and little do they care about the values that my generation has been fighting for. I remember that December 1980, when Soviet invasion hung over Poland. If it weren’t for John Paul II and US President Ronald Reagan, the Soviets would have turned our country into necropolis. My generation remembers and there is real love for America for that reason, but younger generation does not care and may be lost forever. Therefore I think it’s much more important to take them away from the mental influence of these French and other EU leftists. I do my best, really!!! But I cannot be everywhere and I’m too weak to stop EU propaganda from spreading like a cancer. I teach my students the truth. I’ve been always trying to show them America as a free nation with equal justice for all, which has always defended the world from tyranny and has never betrayed its allies. Just imagine! They have asked me why USA, Britain, Australia and Poland fight for freedom alone. Why do so many people protest against the war that can save the world from the real menace of WMD. They already have their eyes open, but there is still much, much more to be done. Since I started work at school I have always been thinking of making contacts with American schools, just for children to make personal friends, to get them to learn American culture, traditions and values that we share. I know really nobody in the USA and it’s very difficult for me to initiate such contacts. But if you know anyone who could be interested in this venture, I would be really grateful for your reply and assistance.

Best wishes

Maciej Pawel (Matthew Paul) from Poland

So how do we contact him? Are you doing it? I would like to send this out to non-freepers by e-mail. How would I get people to contact you or him?
My girls are Opole Dancers. I'm sure I could get some of the older children to write.

This would be excellent. How about getting students to do some cross-travelling?

Personally I am drinking Polish vodka - far superior in taste and price than Stolichnaya.

But a Polish penpal sounds like a good idea, too.

I'm real partial to Belvedere and Chopin for my martinis.

Then again, the Polish beers I have had are second only to Czechwar.

I've been to Poland with an Americanized Pole several times; our company represents a Polish company. I love these people!
Tell me how to correspond with this bunch and I'll do it - and get some others to do so as well.

Why don't you point to a website that shows those products that are imported here. I know FR will not let you try to sell here but maybe you can tell us the kind of products that poland would like to increase sales in.... I think others here would be willing to pick up some products if they knew it was going to help the Poles.
