Russian convoy attacked, some wounded, in Iraq

MOSCOW, April 6 (Reuters) - A Russian diplomatic convoy which left Baghdad on Sunday was attacked and several people were wounded, the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Russian Ambassador Vladimir Titorenko was in the convoy, which was heading for Syria, Interfax news agency said. It was unclear who attacked the convoy.

Russia has been an outspoken opponent of the U.S.-led war against Iraq, and last week summoned the U.S. ambassador to protest against an air raid on a Baghdad suburb which houses the Russian embassy.

Note : when in a war zone ... CLEARLY communicate with the winning side before moving quickly through a combat zone.

From Reuters. If it was the US the headline would be "US attacks Russian Convoy."

So I am thinking Iraqis attacked them in ambush...still have to wait for more info.

It's unclear who attacked them. Notice that there are an unusually high number of "friendly fire" incidents this morning. One in the north with up to 10 coalition dead and another just reported by Rick Leventhal south of Baghdad that wounded two marines.

Pray for our coalition troops.

Hmm, maybe it was some of the freed Iraqis who were mad at the Russkies because they had supported Saddam?

The Russian advisors that were directing the defense of Baghdad are now fleeing. Let's hope Special Ops kills most of them before they reach the Syrian border.

Maybe there were some 'Prime Targets' being wisked out of Baghdad by our Russian "friends".

Maybe the Iraqis did do it, since if the Russians were helping them out on defense, they sure did a lousy job of it.

Hadn't most other governments already closed their embassies in Baghdad days, if not weeks, ago???

THE convoy carrying the Russian ambassador to Iraq and diplomatic staff was attacked on the road from Baghdad to Syria and there are several injured, Interfax news agency reported.

"The car convoy with members of the Russian embassy in Iraq, including the ambassador, came under attack leaving Baghdad in the direction of the Syrian border," a Foreign Ministry spokesman told AFP.

He said officials did not yet know whether the convoy came under attack from Iraqi or US-led coalition forces or whether the envoy himself was among the injured.
