Bush: 'We are committed to the Road Map'

President George W. Bush said Tuesday that the US and Britain "are committed to the Road Map toward peace."

Speaking at a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland, Bush added: "Now this process must be carried forward."

Moments earlier Blair also reaffirmed Britain's commitment to the plan, which calls for achieving Palestinian statehood by 2005.

"It's a hopeful time. I believe we can make progress," Bush said.

Bush further said he is pleased with the designated Palestinian premier Mahmoud Abbas.

I was wondering why the Arabs in Israel, who are right now attacking our troops in Iraq, and burning American Flags, promising more terrorism against Americans around the world, being given a chunk of Israel so they can have a place to make weapons?

Why don't we just declare the terrorists, terrorists and be done with it?

There aren't a lot a palatable options. Israel can't maintain a state of occupation indefinitely, it can't annex the area, and no one else is willing to either. Some sort of state is essentially inevitable. It's only a question of who runs it. Granted that the Palestians seems to be possessed of cultural insanity it's not clear that this won't lead to eventual war anyway.

Israel has no better friend than the US government, and more importantly the American people. I suggest that everyone give this process a bit more time to develop before condeming it.

Why not? IMO, that's the only viable option. The Israelis should say "Screw the UN", and, for that matter "screw the US State Department" when it comes to their national security.

Statehood often moderates terrorists, especially over time. Menachem Begin continued on a terroristic bent even after Israel gained statehood, he became a politician, a leader, and eventually a statesman.

The "road map" does not threaten Israel proper. Indeed it makes it more secure as the "Quartet" would become de facto guarantors of Israel's security. What it does is shoots down the dream of some in Israel (and some here) of expelling three million people from their homes in order to expand "Eretz Israel".

Ironically, their goal is identical to that of the radical Palestinians, with only the names of the people and places changed.

Their national security is largely paid for by our tax dollars, so that's not a "viable option" either. Not a single nation on Earth recognizes any Israeli right to annex the West Bank or Gaza.

Keep hearing the words "road map" but never what it says.

Has the "road map" been published yet?

From what I have heard and read thus far, this "road map" was drawn up by US, Russia and some in Europe.

I just have a hard time figuring out why we have a "roadmap" that spells out how Israel is going to take the land they captured back from an old Jordanian invasion and make it into a home for "Palestinians" when this is happening, Palestinians now attacking US troops in Bagdad in the news. Why do we send millions in Aid to a terrorist group that has attacked us many many times over the years and killed 24 Americans over here in the last two?! The only right terrorists have to land is a 3x6 foot hole 6 feet deep. IMHO

I thought something I read down the thread was interesting. Maybe it would be good to GIVE them a state. Then they could declare war on Israel and Israel could then wipe them out.

Yup! Iraq changes everything. But at the same time there are many in State Department and elsewhere who are hoping to see Israel get a terrorist Palestinian state set up right next door.

Due to demographics any "peace" agreement and withdrawal from West Bank/Gaza will not help Israel. The Muslim imperative will always be to swamp and destroy Israel. I would be optimistic if Palestinian birthrates were the same as Israelis.

You are the mental pygmy for allowing your ridiculous prejudices to blind you to the obvious truth that Oslo led to the deaths of many hundreds of Jews. Oslo in case you have forgotten was the inspiration of Bush 41 and his sidekick James Baker. You also seem to have fogotten that between 1948 and 1967 America didn't lift a finger to help the State of Israel. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if she turned on a dime out of self-interest and because that's what gentiles generally do.

And, by the way, I never did say that America actually wants to kill Jews but I wouldn't expect much else from a man who can't spell "ally" and refuses to capitalize the word "Jew."
