Others in Ithaca's more politically conservative encampments cringe at the thought of Ithaca's liberal reputation being reinforced...Gee, and what "liberal reputation" could they be speaking of?

Oh, boy. Major freep-op alert.

Cornell hasn't gotten a dime in alumni donations from my wife or me since we left for good in the early 90s. A true bunch of loons. The engineering school was like an oasis in the proverbial desert.

Stupid is, as stupid does.
Let's look at this analytically. Liberal wants to honor France (for whatever inane reasons). He invites French celebrities, orders french wine, ect. ect.
Naturally, many people will be outraged, and will use the Frenchfest to bash, insult, degrade and humiliate the very people that were supposed to be honored. Result, massive personal affront to the France. So, what's next? How about a Saddam Look Alike Contest?? Some people are too stupid to be allowed to breed.

Ithaca is the city of evil? Are you people demented? All this Orwellian "newspeak" of "freedom fries", etc. makes me thing that maybe the GOP is no longer a haven for freedom seeking individuals but a party of Maoist like conformists.

"I certainly can't speak for the French people, but I am for anything that supports the political position to put peace back on earth," he said.Oh good! That means he supports Operation Iraqi Freedom! Cool!

What outrages me is not so much the French Fest per se, but this statement by its organizer, Paul Glover:
"One-hundred-fifty-thousand Moroccans (French-speaking) marched last week chanting 'Suicide bombing is the path to liberation.' We want to make sure they know Ithaca is against the war,"
No condemnation of suicide bombing by this "peace activist." All he cares about is making sure that they know that Ithaca is with them on the war.
What's worse, in mentioning that the Moroccans are "French-speaking", Glover apparently would like the "Franco-Ithacan Friendship Proclamation" to extend to them.

(Seriously!) I had a dream nightmare that I was on the Cornell campus last night. What does this mean?! That I'm capable of sensing evil from over a 1000 miles away?

Never fear--
Lots of snow on the ground in Ithaca now.
so they want a nice outdoor event---yeah right.
I figure for the April 30 Commons event it should be
35 degress max. and pouring rain.
Think-- soggy french bread.

This is no honoring France. It's meant as a poke in the eye of the US.
Most of these lefties are like little children who swear in front of the family guests just to get attention. In his case, I'm sure his parents chuckled and told everyone how precocious he was so he's been doing it ever since.

He said he's already had a "significant donation" of French wine for the cause.Translation: they can't sell it at high enough prices, so they are dumping some into this festival. Sure, they will take a loss, but it's better than facing the embarrassment of selling your wine at too low a price.

Well, at least a good "Support Your Troops Rally" opportunity.

I have some sympathy with these guys. I'm not in favor of celebrating the French stance on Iraq, but there's no reason to vilify everything French. It was a good gag for a while but it's worn very thin.
