My gut feeling is when her generation grows up, her tale will be of gratitude and respect for the Americans. In time, the actions of George W. Bush will do more for relations between us and the Mideast region than any 'taking' could ever do.

note: the stick of gum in her little hand.

Another great one! I like that one of the shot from over the coalition soldier's shoulder with the two kids on the ground, one looking off to the right, the other smaller one looking up at the soldier with BIG huge eyes filled with awe and surprise.

Iraqi boys in a village near the city of Najaf in Central Iraq appear glad to be back in school April 4, for the first time since the war started. U.S. Army soldiers from the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion helped clean up the school that was damaged by artillery fire. The soldiers also took money out of their own pockets to pay the teacher several months salary in advance. U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Kevin P. Bell

I wish I could be as optimistic as you are, but I vividly remember the wild reception Americans received when Paris was liberated.

Her mother has a beautiful smile on today. Wonder how long since she has had a reason for that.
