WOW! Thanks for posting that in #305! Wonder if our CIA picked up what was happening and that is the reason they didn't tell Blair until 5 minutes before we struck Saddam that first night!

It is just you put ypur guilt on another guy.Uh, no, Russia is guilty and the US isn't. Since the end of the Gulf War, there have been UN sanctions against Iraq, which Russia has violated. So Russia made the UN a joke already.
More recently, France stated that they would use their ill-deserved veto power to defeat any resolution with teeth, without even reading it. What sort of "law" works if those who violate it, such as Russia and Iraq, face no consequences, thanks to failed "authorities" like France?
These criminal Saddam supporters have no business pretending they have any sincere interest in international law. And it's pathetic that the tireless work of France and Russia to maintain a Stalinist fascist regime in Iraq is somehow twisted into being described as an "anti-War" stance. Pro-torture, pro-WMD, pro-terrorism, that is the true Russian position. They have not abandoned their failed plan to spread totalitarian imperialism around the world.
Russian guilt will be much further exposed and there will be consequences for many decades to come.

>> They don't allow children in Turkey?
Ok, I'll play along with this stupidity..
I'm divorced. I've got the kids. She's American.
I could just take them and leave. But that would be unfair to the kids.
Oh well.

Russia will pay the price for this. It will be economic, and it will also be political. Putin had his chance to join us, and he turned it down. Considering that they have a very long, impossible to fortify border with a China that considers Siberia to rightfully belong to themselves, and has a surplus of about a hundred million military-aged men who will never find Chinese wives -- considering all of that, making bitter, long-term enemies out of the US and UK is a really, really stupid move. Especially considering that all Putin got to show for it was a bunch of now-worthless Iraqi IOUs.

I haven't figured out whether you have a chip on your shoulder or are deliberately misunderstanding things to spread propaganda.++++
You disagree with me you tell me where I'm wrong. But if you low yourself to call names it is not help to understand you.

Are we certain that British communications have been compromised, or just a portion. What I read was that his conversations with foreign leaders were passed on, the example given being his meeting with Burlesconi IN ROME. So that suggests to me that the compromising may have been at meetings outside of London, or communication from outside of London, rather than in London. Could make a very big difference. At least now we know, and can take measures to strengthen communication security. And I'm always looking for a reason to cite in calling for a purging of the Clintonistas...
This really isn't that big a surprise, but rather a sad confirmation of complicity. I think it best to assess this in matters of degrees, rather than either/or. We are still in a form of Cold War spy vs. spy, no shock to the 'trust but verify' crowd. And I would also guess it wise to not completely write off Putin yet. Sometimes neutralization is all that is actually required and/or achievable, the chess never ends. So I can't fault Bush for giving Russia a shot at soul-cleaning with Putin 2 years ago. We didn't drop our guard, but rather offered an opportunity. Now at least Bush can spin himself in the PR battles as a bit as the victim whose offer of friendship was doublecrossed, rather than the constant warmonger. And while some may wince at the use of the word victim, it is a strategic victory for the US, as it maneuvers through fickle diplomacy. Like it or not, a lot of diplomacy lays ahead of each move in the war on terror.
To: RusIvan
So what? It's the same country, 20 years later, but much has changed in history. There was nothing the US did then that was comparable to Russia's violation of UN sanctions and Russia's disgraceful hypocrisy: faking support for "international law" as they violate sanctions.

I "trusted" Putin, not because he is a great guy and our friend, but because I trusted him to be smart and pragmatic to realize that Russia's future depends on his relationship with us. With our help of developing their oil, and commerce, Russian could have become a prosperous nation.
But, instead, Putin chose to play a deeper game, aiming for world domination, by manipulating Saddam to take control of the Middle East's oil supply, which is exactly what would have happened if Saddam had acquired nukes. The Middle East contains 70% of the world's oil reserves.
http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/iea/table81.html Can you imagine if one country is able to control it? They can blackmail the entire world. And I bet that is what Russia's aim was. Thank God we pulled the rug out from under them.
To: a_Turk
It's much more innocent than that. They want money and power..There's nothing innocent about gathering intelligence for Saddam Hussein, especially intelligence about coalition members in a time of war (anything post-9/11 falls into that category). Money alone doesn't drive leaders to take such grand risks. Ambition does.
This is an act of agression. It's not a cause for military conflict, but it's a clear sign to all that the Cold War never really ended. The charade is over.
