Well the thing is that YOU would know you did the right thing. However, you have your opinion which I respect and I have mine which I hope you respect so we leave it there.

Im not sure what Big Ern's remark was, however poking fun at at someone's personal tragedies is something you would see at DU. They are hateful and venomous creatures, as FReepers we should hold to a higher standard and not become like them.

He's certainly being tested. All those tragedies...May God give him peace and comfort during this difficult time.

That remark wasn't necessary. You don't have a clue as to what he does with or for his family. You sound like a democrat.

The most difficult thing I've ever done was to tell my over 90 grandmother that her only son, my dad, had died. It has never left me.

Its sad that you would have to FAKE sympathy for a death in the family. Politics aside, Ernest lost a kid. And his granddaughter lost her mom. That sucks. Its pretty cold hearted not to even CARE about them as fellow human beings.

It's not a death in THE family. It's a death in a family that doesn't know me and I don't know them. I didn't say I didn't care about people dying and I didn't say it wasn't awful for them. I said I won't pretend to be emotional and start my own prayer thread for a family that could care less how I feel about their circumstances and will never know otherwise.

I spoofed Rush to be honest and anyone who gets upset about it is just trying to make themselves feel better about themselves by pretending that their sympathy in a insignificant thread on FR means diddly to the Hollings family.

And since when does bad taste get someone in trouble on FR, home to Feinswinesuksass and hillarysfatass screenames? Jackie Mason has said worse and he's been in the comedy business for about 60 years.

I think some on this thread are confusing sympathy with pity. I'm looking up at the David Bloom funeral on MSNBC live right now and am stuck at the self importance of the event. David Bloom didn't report as if he was the story while he was embedded (unlike Geraldo genetic predisposition to so) so why is MSNBC carrying this event live when it's not a news story? Can't they make the funeral important to the employees of MSNBC without pretending the rest of us care to watch it on TV? p.s. I didn't send flowers to that Island they buried Princess Diana on either. Should I feel guilty?

There is too much dying going on in this world.

Does she have a husband? I hope the little girl will have a comforting person to look after her.

God be with the family.

Thanks for not jumping to any conclusions about what I wrote or lumping me in with the devil's spawn.

When I was a teenager, a person I didn't like died in a car crash.

I made no bones about not missing him, and my grandmother told me "When God lays his hands on someone, you take yours off" or something like that. I laughed at her comment (we didn't get along).

Two months later, one of my best friends died, and yes, some vultures had the same response to her death that I did to the aforementioned.

I believe Gram was right and never did it again.

That's a nice story and a good lesson. I would suggest sharing it with someone who needs it. I never spoke ill of the Senator or his family.

That's the problem with striking a reply those that come later assume all sorts of stuff about you.

What I said was There is too much dying going on around here. But I put "" around it and a southern accent.

Apparently that is in worst taste than certain screenames around this board and some who have said what I would consider to be beyond what I wrote by miles.

Gee Mary....didn't you recently post the quote below on another thread:

"Exactly! I could never figure out why anyone would want to own an assault weapon. I'm sure there are many who do, but are they useful for anything except killing folks?"

Sometimes killin' folks is necessary. How do you think we gained our freedom?

How tragic. There's nothing I can think of that's worse than a parent losing a child -- I saw what it did to my grandmother when her youngest daughter (my mom) died suddenly. It took her will to go on, and she didn't last all that much longer. My deepest sympathies to the Hollings family.

Whether or not you have ever met Senator Hollins is beside the point. He has suffered a tragedy. It is only right to respect this. Senator Hollins, no matter his political leanings, has done some good for the State and the Low-Country. He is a public figure and is deserving of respect, especially in his time of grief. The same respect that we showed Senator Thurmond when he lost his daughter. If you can't or won't do that than please leave. Thank you sir.

A proud South Carolinian and Charlestonian

Gentility and manners, sir. If you didn't know, nor care about Senator Hollins and/or anything to do with South Carolina, then why did you bother to show your face on this thread anyway?
