NOMINATION THREAD FOR THE FREE REPUBLIC GAROFALO AWARDS
Thursday, April 17, 2003 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/17/2003 7:27:08 PM PDT by kristinn

Nominations for Free Republic's Garofalo Awards are being accepted on this thread.

The Garofalo--ready-to-eat stuffed crows on a platter--will be awarded to prominent individuals in the media and elsewhere whose histrionic predictions of doom and gloom before and/or during Operation Iraqi Freedom stand head and shoulders above all others for their shrillness, certainty, and apocalyptic ravings.

To be nominated, the person must meet the criteria. Documentation will be needed (not necessarily provided by the nominator) to provide specific reasons when announcing the winners as to why they were singled out for special recognition.

Ten Garofolos will be awarded. We will do our best to present them to any winners who attend the White House Correspondents Association dinner April 26 when the D.C. Chapter holds its 5th annual freep there of liberal bias in the media.

Janeane Garofalo, whom the award is named for, is eligible to win.

Nominations close Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m. EDT. Voting will commence on a new thread soon thereafter.

I think this article says it all: Why CNN should get an award.

I have to nominate that DemonRat Teddy Kennedy of MA for his amazingly inherently INCORRECT military strategic analysis of both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom!

Note that the "media" has NEVER called him on a lot of things (submarine driving for one)but his military strategy statements are so obviously wrong!

Serve Teddy a couple of Garofalo Crows on a Platter and maybe one-to-go for later!

Scott RItter was just taking lessons from Bagdad Bob and WJC: "...it didn't happen..." "...wasn't anywhere close..." The end justifies the mean etc. etc. etc.

Or does it mean we can only nominate washed-up dyslexic lesbians like Garafolo?

I still seethe over Charlie Dangle's remarks, and wish that both Hannity and Colmes would have sandwiched his useless jowls with one-two jabs/uppercuts. I second his nomination for a spot in the top ten.

Didn't Helen Thomas complain that the war was "going down the drain"?

Oh, wait, that was 1993.

Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders (how appropriate):

I nominate Chris Martin, lead singer of the British band Coldplay. I don't have documentation on hand, but I'm sure he said something like, "Bush wants to kill us all in this war, so we might as well go out with a bang" at the Brit Music Awards. He has also blamed 9.11 on the United States and the West.

I'm not sure if this nominates him for such an award as the Garofalo, but I think he should get at least an Honorable Mention.

STP made some great contributions for nominations. We're going to start a voting thread tonight or tomorrow morning once we've gone through all the nominees on this thread.

Thanks. We'll do some searching on nominees quotes so we have them right when we start the voting.

Great choice! This stupidity (Matthew's quote) should not go unrewarded.
