Laci Peterson case tied to Roe debate - (NOW argues baby was not murdered)

The head of the National Organization for Women's Morris County chapter is opposing a double-murder charge in the Laci Peterson case, saying it could provide ammunition to the pro-life lobby.

"If this is murder, well, then any time a late-term fetus is aborted, they could call it murder," Morris County NOW President Mavra Stark said on Saturday.

How in hell would you know what ANYTHING meant... CHOICE is behind one -- once the child has been conceived.

Your previous post did not say anything about conception, just condemned people without the necessity of conception, saying they were guilty of premeditated murder for just copulating with a NOW woman. Apparently my post has made you think. I don't appreciate being questioned about my ability to know what anything meant, you made the the outlandish claim, not me.

I agree one hundred percent. My post was screwed up by one line in which I wish I could edit out.

I should have never put my personal views into it, but kept my argument only how we, as conservatives, can "use" this case to further the discussion about abortion in this nation.

I believe that the majority of people in the US feel that abortion is not a "make or break" issue when it comes to elections. Although a large majority feel that they could never vote for someone who is militant pro-life (the horrors of back alley abortions, right or wrong will color the argument), I also feel strongly that if we can frame this issue as NOW supports Canidate Dean, Kerry, Gephardt, Sharpton, etc. and we tie NOW and NAARL into this barbaric mutilation of a murder (to call it anything else is sick) we win. I also think if this becomes an issue, we also wins on Judicial Nominees, and that is my primary concern. How influencial is NOW, and NAARL in stopping our nominees if they are associated with such extreme views in the public forum?

Maybe I should start a vanity post with my feelings but leave out the line about my personal feelings about abortion the REAL issue can be discussed, which in my opinion is how to get NOW's views about this not being "murder" out into the national debate. They lose this debate in a heart beat.

There will be a real contradiction if the death penalty is applied. The Supreme Court has implied in its capital-punishment cases that capital punishment is only constitutional for murder. If killing a fetus is not killing a human being, it would be unconstitutional in this case. But the Supreme Court has held in its abortion opinions that a fetus is not a person for legal purposes.

Question: If an assailant tries to rob an expecting mother in her 8th month of pregnancy, and in the process punches the woman in the stomach and the baby dies, would the assailant be charged with murder? What about a doctor performing a C-Section (Extreme example used to get clarity) accidently slices the throat of the baby when making the incision, is the doctor held accountable for the death?

"....you made the the outlandish claim, not me."

Think about it, dude!
Abortion is NOT necessary unless there has been CONCEPTION!!

As long as conception is avoided --- I couldn't care less who you choose to pork, or how the "porkee" feels about abortion..

How do you compromise on the act of murder? That's a joke, asking for a compromise on the matter! Abortion has nothing to do with religious beliefs, in my case, but what really constitutes a human life. Calling a baby a fetus is nothing more than denying physiological and biological facts.

Have you ever seen a sonogram of a baby in its mother's womb? A look could prove to you that it is a living baby, not a discardable piece of tissue. Your arguments are pathetic, but we have learned that you pro-abortionists are unable to accept the facts!

I'm sure this will be a TV-movie and that the Defense team knows a few good Hollywood filmmakers. How much you wanna bet Scott gets life with no parole for simply stating what went down. After all, there are many unanswered questions. And it's hard to make a movie if you don't have all the facts. Sad and pathetic but true.

"Those people are pathetic."

And they are wrong. Thankfully, they are stupid enough to make a cause celebre out of this and show the utter hypocrisy and the selfish, anti-human rights extremism of the NOW zealots.

A baby is still a baby is a human being, no matter what it's place of residence.

"Not NOW, not ever."

Give it a break, you got called on your statement. Using your theory of copulating with a NOW woman is premeditated murder, then just thinking about it is conspiracy to commit murder. No conception was indicated and your statement was outlandish. End of discussion with you.

From UPI Snip it:

Laci's husband Scott Peterson locked up

The chief continued his department's tight-lipped approach to the case. However officials told CNN that the identification of the bodies was not necessary to make the arrest, suggesting police were working on evidence closer to the Petersons' home.

Asked if police thought Peterson might flee across the border into Mexico, Chief Wadsen replied, "That was a concern."

A golf pro at the seaside Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla told Fox News she witnessed an unmarked car with four or five plainclothes officers pull Peterson's vehicle over and take him into custody around noon. The pro said there was a set of golf clubs in his car.

Before the day was over, Peterson was being driven the nearly 500 miles from San Diego to Modesto where he was to be arraigned on capital murder charges Monday or Tuesday.

The inclusion of the unborn Conner in the charges could ultimately lead to the death sentence for Peterson should he be convicted.

Under California law, a murder charge can be applied in the death of a fetus if the mother was more than seven weeks pregnant and the killer was aware his actions would cause its death. A conviction in the death of mother and fetus would be considered a multiple murder that would qualify the defendant for execution -- though California seldom carries out death sentences.

"That doesn't mean we will automatically be seeking the death penalty," Stanislaus County District Attorney Jim Brazelton told reporters. "There are a number of things we take into consideration."

Brazelton said he would oppose any attempt to move the trial to another jurisdiction because the mystery had riveted the attention of the public far beyond California.

"There has been media attention around here, but everywhere I've gone the past three months, statewide and nationally, everyone has a great deal of knowledge about this case," Brazelton said. "That kind of cuts in favor of there not being a change of venue. Where are you going to go to find someone that has not heard of this case?"

Because the charges were filed in Stanislaus County, investigators apparently believe the murder occurred in Modesto rather than in Contra Costa County where the remains were discovered.

Peterson had maintained that he last saw his wife, eight months pregnant, at their Modesto home on the morning of Dec. 24 as he set off for a solo fishing trip on San Francisco Bay -- just a few miles from where the bodies were recovered as well as 20 feet of plastic that could have been used to wrap the body.

No, the candidate disagrees with your definition of right, wrong and evil. Do you have the ability to see that your opinion is not all controlling and could possibly be wrong?

Only if one agrees that murder isn't wrong. This is one of those truths that is self evident.

And it's not my definition of right, wrong or evil. If I defined what is right and what is wrong, the world would be in even worse trouble.
