Pram, By artifacts Mother Abigail meant that the viral pieces being found weren't the root cause but were impairing the researchers from seeing beyond. For instance in radiology, artifacts on x-rays can misguide the radiologist. You probably have some photos with small artifacts caused by specks of dust or lint on a camera lense.

Interestinq quote I read last night that I think may apply to SARS.It is in response William Beveridge who authored Influenza: The Last Great Plague
