So why is the house shaking... Felt like a long 4-5 earthquake at 5:02

The nuclear plant is over Sand Mnt. from Fort Payne. Scottsboro Alabama has Brown's Ferry Nuclear Plant. No comments on damage yet. I know that this town just had all 8 police officers zoom by a few minutes ago heading NORTH from Fort Payne.

It's really not bad, as long as you're not actually in the City of Atlanta proper, which is really pretty small, both area and population. Heck, I used to be in Newt's old district; hardly a liberal enclave. No sweat, accepted.

No, Browns Ferry is further west ... The one north of Scottsboro has a different name.

Browns Ferry is also on the TN River, but west of the Redstone Arsenal.

Not my first, but the first in a long time. I grew up practically on top of the New Madrid fault. Remember one in particular when I was in jr. high. My first though this morning when I realized it was an earthquake was, "I wonder if Memphis fell in the river?"

Mom worked at Stevenson Alabama Power Plant (boilermaker welder and the first one) for years. That is Northeast of Scottsboro. I think Belfont is the name of the Nuclear plant.

How wonderful for those kids! My only memory of a trip to any official site in Kansas is that it never happened. I was in elementary school during the "inconvenience" of the Vietnam War. I actually recall a teacher saying those words. Thankfully my parents lived/live in the real world.
