'Star Wars' Faves Back for Prequel
Sun Apr 27,10:15 PM ET
By Sheigh Crabtree
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - George Lucas (news) is bringing back the classic characters Chewbacca the Wookie, C-3PO and R2-D2 for the upcoming "Star Wars Episode III."
The director has already hired actors Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniel and Kenny Baker (news) to reprise their respective roles as sprightlier versions of their characters for the prequel in preproduction.
All three actors have donned costumes in past "Star Wars" episodes, and in the case of Daniel and Baker, the thespians have loaned their voice talents to puppet and motion-control versions of their characters. Lucas has noted in the past that having Baker inside the R2-D2 suit brought "an element of humanity" to the character.
The film, whose full title has not yet been disclosed, is scheduled for a May 25, 2005 release.

Now maybe if Lucas could bring in some decent writers, the galaxy far, far away could return to some of it's former glory. The prequels have forever dimmed my view of Star Wars.

I think I got my two posts mixed upUh huh. Sure. It's easy to mix up posts when you have to do them one at a time.
Confess. You love the Wookie. You think this news is right up there with the Fall of Baghdad.

If there is no character development in this one, then forget it. I cared about Luke, Han and the rest, but the prequels have been all "look at the special effects" and forget that there should be a story with people we care about.
Like LOTR.

George Lucas (news) is bringing back the classic characters Chewbacca the Wookie, C-3PO and R2-D2 for the upcoming "Star Wars Episode III." Good, now perhaps if he brings back original writers, like Lawrence Kasdan, he may actually make a movie that doesn't suck.

I disagree... I think the prequel stories have filled in a lot of holes. I believe the next film will be the biggest Star Wars movie (in terms of sales) ever.

On a related note, the video game "Obi-Wan" was originally slated to be released for the computer. One of the reasons it was dumped to the X-Box was LucasArts was worried enterprising players would figure out how to insert Jar Jar into the game. Instead of the usual enemies, the protagonist (presumably Obi-Wan) would fight nothing but Jar Jar.
Then again, I'm the guy who thinks the script for Episode 3 should be one page long:
"Obi-Wan and Anakin fight."
"It looks real cool."
"Obi-Wan wins and knocks Anakin into lava pit."
Unfortunately, there are too many loose ends from the last one to make my dream script viable...

I could live with that.
Or:
Anakin starts whining, AGAIN.
Amidala gapes at him like a woman coming off a particularly bad drunk. Anakin menaces her with his light saber.
Obi Wan kills him.
Amidala and Obi Wan go off together and raise little Han and Leia.
The Emperor's forces rebuild him as a mechanized zombie, setting the stage for Ep. 4.
The End.
