Comical brother On the mike ... Comical Ali spouts more outrageous Baghdad baloney
IRAQ?S barmy information minister Comical Ali is launching an assault on the charts ? with a dance track.
The crackpot?s ridiculous rants about the Gulf war ? such as ?There is no presence of American infidels in Baghdad? when US troops were easily seen just a few hundred yards away ? are to be featured on a new record.
Producers say it will sound like PAUL HARDCASTLE?s Eighties hit 19 and be a sure-fire club hit.
One of the record?s backers, Les Molloy, told me: ?We are working on a dance track with samples of Comical Ali?s most famous quotes.
?It is set to be massive. There has already been a lot of interest from record stations and club DJs.
?It will be quite similar to Paul Hardcastle?s 19 ? which was about the Vietnam War ? and will go down a storm in the clubs.?
Ali ? real name Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf ? is an infamous figure in the West after entertaining us with his outrageous claims of Iraqi victories.
He came out with another memorable phrase as American troops were taking Saddam International Airport: ?They are nowhere near the airport. They are lost in the desert. They can not read a compass. They are retarded.?
Producer Alton Edwards has been mixing the track after Les recorded the minister?s trademark fibs.
The as-yet untitled record will be completed during the next few days and will be sent to radio stations and clubs early next week.
Record companies are already lining up to distribute the track.
Molloy says that royalties due to the minister for the use of his voice will go to Iraqi children?s charities.
Ali ? who was said to have committed suicide when Baghdad fell but is now reported to be holed up in the city with relatives ? is no stranger to showbiz.
He has starred in a campaign for airline Ryanair, when they jokingly named him as the new communications boss of rival firm Easyjet.
He also featured in a comical advert for the Australian ski resort of Thredbo. And he is now a pin-up ? his jowly chops grace thousands of T-shirts, posters and websites.
He may be a halfwit in a hat but I reckon Ali is perfect pop star material ? because, just like the biggest stars, he is completely divorced from reality.
