Fox News' Rita Cosby has just announced that the military says that Jessica Lynch cannot remember anything after the ambush. They say she was "traumatized" and is "blocking out the memories".

Psychiatrists are helping her recover her memories because she "is probably our best witness for war crimes prosecution".

Apparently the medics now think she was seriously abused physically. She (according to Cosby) is "still in serious pain" from her injuries.

I hope all the details stay a secret except for those with a need to know.

My gut feeling is this is a lot of bovine scatology. I state this knowing full well that past events in her life were at times likely to be traumatic; but still something just doesn't add up here.

The entire Jessica Lynch story, to date, appears riddled with holes. I am uncertain if we will ever know the whole truth, or that we should.

This whole "amnesia" story just appears to me to be another attempt to make an end-run around the truth about her kidnapping.

The situation with female POW's is sad and also took a long time to come out after Gulf War I. I am afraid that the Iraqi fellow who risked his life to get her rescued probably would not have done so if the only problem was, as reported, her being slapped.

Re prosecution, our self-respect requires treating anyone involved in mistreatment of Americans far more harshly than normal Saddamite thugs. However, the prosecutor's problems should of course not come first.

The story is riddled with holes. The final story I heard is that she did not shoot until she ran out of ammunition when she was captured, that she was not shot, that her injuries were from the vehicle accident, and that there was no dramatic rescue from the hospital. The hospital had already been abandoned by the Iraqi troops when she was rescued. Nothing against her, but I feel she is being used for propaganda.
