West Coast Tremors (CA Gov. Grey Davis Recall Effort Gaining Steam)

Aides to House Rep. Darrell Issa (R-49) who himself aspires to be Governor, plan to file papers as early as today to creating yet another campaign to recall Governor Grey Davis.

Aides said that Issa plans to provide six figure donations as seed monies for the new recall effort called Rescue California.

Sacramento political consultant Dave Gilliard who will manage the new effort and represents Issa as well as half a dozen GOP'ers said: 'This funding is substantial and more than enough to do the job that needs to be done.'

Gilliard said the committee will have sufficient money to hire professional petition circulators who will attempt to gather 700,000 to 800,000 signatures of registered voters.

Such fims generally charge $1-$2.00 per name. Other committees already in operation are expected to gather the balance of the roughly 1.2 million signatures needed to put a recall measure before voters.

Well, a recent survey found that 69 percent of Democrats could not identify a single candidate who is seeking the 2004 Democrat nomination. I just don't think most people are that familiar with Miss Rice, any more than they were with Robert McFarlane, when he ran the NSC during part of the Reagan years.

I hate to say it, but I agree with you. The republicans had a chance to beat Davis in the last election, and failed. I think something like a recall should be reserved for either a watergate type situation or when someone changes his/her position on issues significantly from what was campaigned on. I don't think we have that here. Althought the CA constit allows for it, I think we will regret this in the future, as every time a politician becomes unpopular during his/her term, we will see recall efforts from the other side.

My gut feeling is that we should not recall Davis. If he is recalled and a more acceptable governor is appointed, who looks good trying to clean up the mess, he could be a more formidable candidate for re-election.

If we leave Davis is place and let him continue to make a mess of things, the chances of a Democrat being elected at the next election will be nil.

Quite frankly, I don't want to take Condi from the position she currently serves in, but then, a lot of folks didn't really think that President Bush was the best candidate either in 2000 and Texas has survived without him as well.

If I had my way, I'd recall the whole damn lot of the connivers on the demRatic side of the house. They have sabotaged this state's future with their overzealous socialist agenda which Davi$ all too ready signed off on only too gleefully to build the voter base for future elections.

I just was shopping at the Target store in north Fresno where a group of earnest young people had a card table set up to take signatures on the recall petition. I had already signed one but there were many people there signing on my way in and many more on my way out of the store. Usually the petition gatherers are all alone but this was not the case with Davis.

Mind you, that was when I was much more "moderate". Clinton cured me of that. All the 'good' Democrats are dead or retired and there are no ones coming up to replace them.

I saw that survey of voter ignorance about Democrat candidates for 2004 in one of the postings on the left side of Free Republic in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Matt Drudge has predicted that the popular New Englander John F. Kerry will be the Democrat nominee next year. The convention will be in Boston, and Drudge thinks Boston was chosen by Terence McAuliffe with the idea of Kerry as the nominee.

I heard on a radio talk show recently that there are a few well-known firms that specialize in getting signatures for recalls and such. Gov. Joe Davis has given both of these firms state contracts to conduct polls for him. This means they would probably be unwilling to help with the recall. Sneaky bastard!

Nothing is certain in California politics except that, no matter who the next governor is, the legislature will be firmly in the hands of the socialists, as it has been for the last 30 years (except for a two-year period from 1994-96, part of the "Republican Revolution" that swept the SOB RATs out of the Congressional majority) The problem was, by the time the Repubos realized they had the majority, another election cycle had occurred and they were back in the minority again!

The Republican Party in California cannot get its crap together. The candidates they ran for the last two gubernatorial elections, Lungren and Simon, may have been good governors if they had won; but the campaigns they ran were rotten and totally mismanaged. The California Repubos have a lot of internal strife. They have been their own worst enemy. The rotten RATs always pull together in the end, no matter what personal dislikes they may feel toward their fellow RATs during primaries. (Not so Repubos, those turds can really nurse a resentment for a long time). They also have a well-oiled voting machine in Cal that might just incorporate vote fraud here and there.

I can think of at least a half dozen RAT-bastards that have a good chance of becoming governor next time including that criminal, the current AG, Bill Lockyer, he is as bad or maybe worse than Davis, if that's possible. Along with John Burton, a few others are absolute commies to the core. If the recall is successful and a Repubo wins the recall election, then its a good bet that an incumbent has the edge in the next regular election. That's the only good possibility that I see in the recall effort - to put the veto pen in the hand of the opposition, in this case, us.
