Senator Robert "Ku Klux Klan" Byrd
On The Home Front ^ | 6 May 2003 | William D Hocutt

Posted on 05/07/2003 3:50:07 PM PDT by UnkHiram

Senator Robert "Ku Klux Klan" Byrd, a former recruiter for the Bed Sheet Bandits of West Virginia recently made some comments about President Bush's appearance on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Before we discuss his comments, Lets examine Senator Byrd and his "History."

Senator Byrd voted against the confirmation of Clarence Thomas (An African American) to the Supreme Court. Now, I can see Yall saying that Clarence Thomas is a Republican and a Conservative and Senator Byrd is neither, so naturally he would vote against him. I would surrender that point except for the fact that Senator Byrd also voted AGAINST the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall, A Very Liberal, Very Democrat African American Judge, when he was nominated to the Supreme Court.

During the year 2001 on a broadcast of Fox News Sunday, Senator Byrd twice used the "N" word. He NEVER publicly apologized for the use of that word, instead sending a written apology to the network.

Senator Byrd voted against removing from an office an elected official that was guilty of Perjury, Lying to a Congressional Investigating Committee and Obstruction of Justice in a Civil Rights Court Case. The Individual in question was disbarred in his home state and prohibited from practicing law before the Supreme Court. The Reason Senator Byrd refused to remove this gentleman from office? Because it was a Democrat President: President William Clinton.

During the 1940s Senator Byrd spent two "ELECTED" terms as a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan in West Virginia. Senator Byrd was one of the DEMOCRATS That tried to prevent the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill with a Filibuster. Senator Byrd was among the Democrats that voted AGAINST the 1964 Civil Rights act.

In a letter to Mississippi Senator Bilbo in 1947, Senator Byrd wrote "never submit to fight beneath the banner [the American flag] with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

Senator Byrd is widely known as the "King of Pork." He brings home to West Virginia More Federal dollars than any other Senator in Washington. Senator Byrds voting record and actions in the US Senate would make Nathan Bedford Forest (The Founder of the KKK) jump for Joy.

On March 19th 2003, Senator Byrd said on the Senate Floor "Instead of reasoning with those with whom we disagree, we demand obedience or threaten recrimination. Instead of isolating Saddam Hussein, we seem to have isolated ourselves. We proclaim a new doctrine of preemption which is understood by few and feared by many. We say that the United States has the right to turn its firepower on any corner of the globe which might be suspect in the war on terrorism. We assert that right without the sanction of any international body. As a result, the world has become a much more dangerous place. We flaunt our superpower status with arrogance. We treat UN Security Council members like ingrates who offend our princely dignity by lifting their heads from the carpet. Valuable alliances are split. "

Are we to assume from these comments, That Senator Byrd feels the United States may only defend itself when the United Nations says we can?

Recently Senator Byrd made the following statement regarding President Bush's Speech on the USS Abraham Lincoln. ""I do not begrudge his salute to America's warriors aboard the carrier Lincoln, for they have performed bravely, ... but I do question the motives of a desk-bound president who assumes the garb of a warrior for the purposes of a speech,"

I don't remember Senator Byrd questioning the Motives of a Draft Dodger President at Normandy. It seems Senator Byrd only questions the Motives of Republican Presidents. Could it be his objection is Purely Political?

If you've ever seen him on C-Span, he is a little more calm now in regards to african americans, but not if they are conservative, then he gets very long winded. You want facts though, Byrd is the lead democrat with the filibustering, but have you noticed that the only time he has talked about the fillibuster, and the only time he moves on it, is when the judge is not white (Estrada). He even pretty much gave a free pass to Pickering, who is just as a conservative, and had some controversy on him, but he went loose on Bush's hispanic pick. I don't think its a coincedence.

You want proof of him, look at which judges he fillibusters, or offers to fillibuster ("as long as it takes") and which ones he doesn't. Give you a hint, he didn't go after any of Bush conservative white judges, including Pickering, but he has no problem jumping in front of a camera ready to stop a hispanic.

That may very well be true, but that has nothing to do with his idiotic comments on Bush's carrier landing. Bush is white, but he's still complaining.

All I'm saying is that though Byrd doesn't have the moral high ground by any standard, let's stick to the issue: his reaction to the carrier landing. Now, if he had thrown this kind of a temper tantrum when Condi Rice and Colin Powell were up for confirmation, then I wouldn't have a problem with screaming "Kleagle!"

In my opinion, such absolutely blatant hypocrisy has no statute of limitations, for either Byrd, or for those on the left that have chosen to willfully ignore his past because he has a (D) after his name.

There is not a Republican alive that could get away with Byrd’s resume, because the race-pimps and the mediots would demand blood.

In fact, I have an idea. FReepers should organize a donation of sheets to homeless shelters around the country in the name of Robert Byrd. Imagine the attention that would get, since we are doing something good and noble while simultaneously taking this pompous, arrogant, self-righteous, condescending cross-burner down a notch or two.

Since it is soooooo important to the “senator” that his name be on everything, how about “The Robert Byrd’s Sheeting You Giveaway”?

Hey Klan Boy - As far as I am concerned Bush could have flown the biggest, most expensive plane he could out to that carrier, popped a few missles at some whales, strafed a few dolphins with machine gun fire, buzzed the tower, landed and called a press conference just to take a dump in Helen's lap, and wiped his butt with the NYTimes - and he STILL wouldn't have caused 1/100 of the damage your Klinton buddy inflicted on the American people !!!!

(I can dream can't I)

(/late nite rant)

He has taken shots at Rice, on numerious occasions. He even went to far as to call Bush a hypocrite and then implied, and the language was very cute, about Bush using affirmative action. (Basically saying Rice and Powell got the job by being black). He's called the administration warhawks, which is normal for a dem, saying he's getting bad advice on foreign policy and national security, was a direct shot at Powell and Rice. Also, and I forget her name, was it chavez? The hispanic woman Bush appointed, but had to drop because of "nanny gate". Byrd, led the charge, jumping out in front of even Dashle.

And to think, he is still in the Senate! Had this been a Pubbie, he would have been gone the next day! Ask Trent Lott, and he didn't even use the N word. Double standard employed by the media. This man is disgusting.

I was using an analogy. I know he enjoys wailing away at the administration. I'm just saying let's keep it in context. There's nothing racial about a damn aircraft carrier.

Ah, forget it. I'm withdrawing from this thread. My point isn't hitting home with too many people...

I get yor point. He wails away on the carrier, yet he didn't even know the facts. The helicopter ride, would have cost the exact same amount ($7,000) for an hour. He didn't care to even learn that fact, he is also the king of waste, nicknamed, by both the republicans and democrats as the "Undisputed King of Pork". (this is actually a compliment). He's making remarks about grandstanding, when he is famous for giving bellicose speeches at monuments that he forces taxpayers to pay for in his honor (which is shamefull), and the construction contracts, go to cronies who gave him contrinutions or well connected friends. Its just the idea, that of all people, he would bash Bush on this.
