NewsNight with Aaron Brown: Weeknights, 10 p.m. ET
Friday, May 9, 2003
Good evening,
"This town is in total shock?. That?s how someone from the Red Cross described the mood in Oklahoma City this morning, a city that's had entirely too much suffering over the past decade. The tornadoes that hit yesterday left a lot of damage and more than a hundred people hurt. The only good thing to say about it is that it appears no one was killed. That was not the case in 1999, when a tornado there killed 47 people. We'll have the latest from Oklahoma and other datelines across the country where the people are still getting beat up badly by wind and rain.
The Secretary of State is headed for the Middle East, aiming to get the Israeli Prime Minister and the new Palestinian Prime Minister to begin taking steps along the ?roadmap? to peace. Secretary Powell said he's ?encouraged that we may have a fresh start?. Others are less optimistic. We'll preview the trip.
We'll talk with Matt Cooper of Time Magazine about a few political developments, including the continuing tussle over a tax relief plan - and an attempt by the Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist to break the logjam over the President?s judicial nominees. It?s something that's raising a few eyebrows.
We continue to be fascinated with the story of Private Jessica Lynch and the details of her rescue which are still very much a mystery.
We'll talk with Mitch Potter of the Toronto Star who's done some terrific reporting on the rescue from the perspective of the people working at the hospital in Nasiriya.
The one segment we know will be controversy-free and calorie-rich, the one with author Calvin Trillin. He's written a book called ?Feeding a Yen?, a culinary tour around the globe in search of the best of everything.
We?ll see you as always at 10 PM ET.
Aaron
. . .Miller will not disappoint you. . .and it is amazing what a change in direction can do :^)
You can enjoy the wind blowing. . .
. . .maybe, but do not think Brown can avoid Miller's 'new' side and still have an interview that is relevant. . .
Miller was as funny as ever last night and gave Alan more than he could handle on Hannity and Colmes. . .
Hope Brown is ready.
