It's a Byrd, S-3B Viking -- it's Taco Bell's dog
Orlando Sentinel ^ | 5/11/03 | Kathleen Parker

Sometimes the best political strategy is simply to stand still and allow yourself to be attacked by the wrong guy.

snip

We are witness to such a phenomenon as George Bush -- cheered, regaled and not-bad in his Top Gun duds -- finds his form-fitting aviator pants leg in the clenched teeth of Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., playing the Taco Bell Chihuahua to Bush's Rin Tin Tin.

snip

As one-two punches go, the Byrd/Waxman sally was a bad day for nerds everywhere. Performing a whiney duet of the desperate, they managed to evoke images of skinny boys studying the quarterback's swagger for clues on cool. It's almost as painful to watch them contort in envy as it must have been for them to watch Bush, a stud muffin no matter what his other flaws, arriving on a testosterone bullet to the cheers of 5,000 sailors.

Not to mention the living-room applause of an appreciative nation not nearly as perplexed as pleased by the pageantry clearly intended. Who cares if it was a photo op? It's our photo op, which the other envy-boys around the world also got to see.

snip

By attacking the right guy at the wrong time, Byrd and Waxman not only have harmed their cause, but aided the Bush ascendancy. For now the president is not only a daring jet rider, he's a victim of empty criticism. The hero-victim doesn't have to do anything but stand still -- and no doubt fight the urge to say, "Yo quiero a Waxman and Byrd."

>>The families were NOT made to wait. The Abraham Lincoln came in at its scheduled time.<<

In act, it is official Navy policy to never arrive early, since it is a disservice to waiting families, who would miss the opportunity to greet their Navy loved ones.

Dam Dims -- I actually think this is hilarious. The contrast between an honest president in a party with principles versus the previous smarmy liar and his syncophantic supporters is a great coup for the good guys.

Average Americans must think Waxman and his ilk are nuts!

I agree........they should just shut up about it now and pray it goes away.

If I didn't know better, I'd say the party of special interests is disintergrating before our very eyes. (It may have started with their crushing defeat of 2002). No, the Rats will become more dangerous as we approach November 2004.

The Dems are still criticizing, the TV stations are showing Bush on the carrier looking like a real leader. As the article said, all Bush has to do is stand still and let these fools make even bigger fools of themselves, than they already are.

America now remembers what MANHOOD is all about, and xlinton's tainted Tabloid headline reputation is not what it wants to see.

The thing that's funniest to me is that it was the dims who set this 'image' criteria for a President, and now they've been deep sixed by it because of a President who doesn't do anything just to enhance his image.

This is too beautiful for words!

Talk about Dims being stupid, yesterday sweetliberty and I saw the same thing on FOX - California will not put President Bush on the ballot! He would than have to be a write-in candidate!

I missed the rest of the story because I was screaming at the TV, or rather the croocked beyond belief, rotten b@st#$%s dimocRAT slime they had on!

Did anyone else catch this, or were those who did see it were screaming too and missed it?

Fractional American, can you help us here, please?

Calling the physically and spiritually hideous Waxman a chihuahua is a deep insult to small, rodent like hairless dogs, who at least are good watchdogs.

Unlike Waxman, who crippled our capacity to protect ourselves, among his many other endless crimes.

Gee, do we have to post those pictures of Clinton in flight jacket visiting the various carriers again? Sigh!

You didn't hear any liberals complain about that, did you?

The families were NOT made to wait. The Abraham Lincoln came in at its scheduled time.

As a Navy spokesman announced after the Democrats made this false claim, Navy ships do not arrive at homeport early. They arrive "on schedule" even if they have to cool their heels off-shore for a day or two after a faster than scheduled transit.

The reason for this is consideration for the families.

Welcoming a loved one after a deployment is a big deal. It's like a wedding. Mom and Dad make travel arrangements. The kids are taken out of school for the day. Parties are planned. "Special plans" are made for that evening, maybe at a reserved romantic getaway, to ......ummmm......errrr.....balance the family checkbook.

Yep. I remember once being picked up by my wife and unexpectedly being driven directly to the finest hotel in Charleston, South Carolina where I was self-consciously dragged through the lobby and the Registration Desk wearing my BDU's encrusted with two weeks worth of Camp Lejeune field exercise grime and smelling like a man that had not showered in two weeks.

Such planning does not mix well with, "Surprise! The Abraham Lincoln is arriving 27 hours earlier than previously announced."

When Democrats claim that the arrival was delayed for a day, they are simply lying.

California ( and some other states, there may be 3-4 more) has a deadline, by which they need to know who are the presidential candidates for each party. Unfortunately the Republican Convention will be late, which will put it past that deadline. And of course the CA dims are not about to make an exception.

But, unfortunately, I think this is a screw up by the Republicans, they should have thought of this, before setting the date for the convention.

If your FReeper photo is among those at http://saturn.he.net/~danger/freepnet/album/index.php , chances are good that it's in there.

All I do is specify the main image and the tiny component images ... the software does the rest.
