McCarthy and The Establishment's Blind Eye To America's Enemies

WASHINGTON -- The cry of "McCarthyism" has weakened America before her enemies.

While a group called international A.N.S.W.E.R has organized (sometimes violent) appeasement protests throughout the nation leading up to and during the war in Iraq, there is no established committee in Congress assigned to investigate this group.

Such a probe would not abridge anyone’s freedom of speech, but would determine if enemy forces are trying influence U.S. policy.

There is no committee to follow up on documentation by hard-leftist-turned-conservative activist David Horowitz that ANSWER is "a front for the Communist Workers World Party with tentacles stretching around the globe."

Congress doesn’t investigate organizations like ANSWER, though - as NewsMax.com has reported - lawmakers have seriously considered of doing just that.

A probe might also take up Horowitz’s charge that the "anti-war" group NION (Not in Our Name) "is the brainchild of [a] Maoist" who is "a leader of the Revolutionary Communist Party, [and] has a close relationship...with the Maoist International Movement."

But the Horowitz list doesn’t stop there. It will be interesting to see if Congress wants to vigorously pursue this, knowing that any lawmaker who steps out front on the issue will bring down upon his head the wrath of the leftist establishment for supposedly engaging in "McCarthyism."

As NewsMax.com Contributing Editor Phil Brennan has noted, the word "McCarthyism" first appeared in the Daily Worker, the official organ of the Communist Party, USA, on orders from Moscow. As has recently been documented, the Communist Party USA was funded by the Soviet Union.

The House Committee on Internal Security (the renamed House Committee on Un-American Activities) was hot on this money trail in 1975. But in that year, the "Watergate babies" added leftist muscle to the new Congress and the committee was abolished.

For years, that panel and the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, which went out of business shortly thereafter, were accused of "McCarthyism" by communists and their camp-followers.

Now, the communist/terrorist alliance of the early 21st Century is running interference for those who want to kill Americans, as demonstrated in their actions following the 9/11 attacks on the Trade Towers and the Pentagon.

Last week, when the Senate Government Affairs Committee released formerly sealed executive session testimony before the McCarthy committee, the Senate’s associate historian and baby boomer chairwoman and subcommittee chairman echoed the old anti-McCarthy cliches.

Thus it is time to get right to the core of the name-calling and demolish once and for all the myth that the man for whom the word "McCarthyism" was named "smeared" people and "ruined lives" and was on a "witch hunt" that "never exposed communists." A few examples:

As NewsMax.com has reported, Senator Joseph McCarthy was right on the money when he pursued the atom scientist Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer. (See "Sacred Secrets" by the Schecters- 2002, pp. 49-52, 315-317).

Senator McCarthy pursued T. A. Bisson, a former State Department employee, for his written pro-Communist Chinese input. More recently, it’s been revealed that what the senator did NOT know about Bisson was even worse (See "The Venona Secrets" by Romerstein/Breindel-2000, p. 169.)

As mentioned by NewsMax.com, McCarthy took the hit for pursuing Annie Lee Moss, a Pentagon file clerk. (The Subversive Activities Control Board subsequently identified her as a member of the D.C. Communist Party).

The Tydings Committee (whose word apparently is taken as gospel by the current Senate associate historian) whitewashed Owen Lattimore and the Institute of Pacific Relations (IPR) when McCarthy went after them.

But a year-long probe by the Democrat-led Senate Internal Security Subcommittee (of which McCarthy was not a member) found Lattimore to be "a conscious articulate instrument of the Soviet conspiracy," and that the pro Red Chinese IPR had been "considered by the American Communist Party and Soviet officials as an instrument of Communist policy."

New books setting the record straight on McCarthy are on the way. But in part by using this one man as a bugaboo, today’s hard left - in the name of "peace" gets away with delaying emergency vehicles whenever possible (San Francisco), trying to block a major hospital’s emergency room entrances and exits(Albuquerque), blocking an ambulance trying to get through the mob (Washington), and setting fires and attacking the police (Chicago).

This has caused Americans with long memories to ask: Where is Joe McCarthy now that we need him?

It is not the job of congress to investigate ANSWER or similar groups. If they are suspected of breaking the law, it is a job for law enforcement.

It might not be a good move, politically, for congress to investigate ANSWER and other groups. But if I were in congress I would like to know if the FBI and CIA have checked out the money trail and if not, why not. Norman Solomon's "Useful Hollywood Idiot" Travel Agency did a booming business ferrying Sean Penn and others to Baghdad. Like to know who paid for Brian Becker to travel to and write propaganda for North Korea as well. The reason Democrats in Congress went after the FBI and CIA in the 1970s and 1980s is because the agencies were finding American left wing groups were funded by the KGB. That is why the left is so opposed to the Patriot Act today--it restores the ability of the FBI and CIA to cooperate. There is enough circumstantial evidence out there to suggest ANSWER is not a domestically funded organization. And if nonprofits are funding Becker, Clark and Cagan, the public has a right to know that too.

Thanks, this is an excellent article showing how the traitors of today thrive due to the electronic lynching done on Senator McCarthy decades ago.

Our enemy within loves McCarthy, at least they love their version of him.

Our subversive friends know that most people don't read and get their news from TV where they are enchanted by celebrity and facile surface without substance.

We're lucky anybody cares.

I'll have to take my copy of The Venona Secrets to bed with me tonight.

I don't expect anyone in Congress today, has the fortitude to check out anti-American groupies.

Would be an interesting search to see who their funders are and what all does get funded in their anti-American quest.

joe mccarthy is one of the los angeles times favorite themes. they present the hollywood writers as if they were innocent, when in reality, they were communist party members who worked for the overthrow of the united states.

they were infiltrating public schools, universities, the media, the government, etc.

a related matter was the korean war. communist sympathizers within the state department and the united nations forwarded american military secrets to the chicoms.

The McCarthy transcripts released last week has some great testimony from American Korean War POWs in Volume 3.

There is also a curious account of U.S government purchases of goose down from the ChiComs during the Korean War (over $30 million worth). It was not put out to bid, the books of the American company handling the transaction were not examined and we, at one point, were paying twice what we could have purchased the feathers for on the open market.

A "witch hunt" no doubt.

:-)

Similiar to McCarthy wanting to know how an English ship ended up transporting ChiCom troops to North Korea during the Korean War.

I have begun to read the McCarthy transcripts. They are fascinating. The communist espionage at the State Department was shameful.

Addictive reading, aren't they? State was infested with traitors. Catch how the American Legion tracked 400 men who were fired from State as security risks (they were homosexuals) to Paris? They were living very well in gay old Paree and the vets wanted McCarthy to find out how.

Despite what the left claims, McCarthy make it clear to all gays who testified that their morals, as he put it, was not his concern and their testimony would remain sealed.

Posted a little of Helen P. Balog's testimony about how her superiors at State were deleting information from personal files. Got a response from a lady in Baltimore who lived next door to "Miss Helen" in the 1950s. No one had any idea she was involved in the hearings. The person who contacted me is trying to locate relatives of Helen to tell them about the transcripts. She served her country well and they should know about it.

I read some of this lady's testimony. She asked the McCarthy committee for protection from the commie infiltrators at the State Department. Because she had dutifully reported the illegal removal of documents from files, her boss informed the State Department culprits who made her work life hell and the boss refused to enforce the law.

It appears that the 'Red Scare' victims were the anti-communists and the oppressors were commies. The NYT refuses to acknowledge this. What does that tell you about the NYT!
