The best short article I have ever read on just what went on in the events surrounding McCarthy, Hess and the rest.

The American public has little understanding of - and unfortunately little appetite for - the true extent of the Soviet intelligence operation that was undertaken against them, and which most likely still continues. Doesn't take much stretch of the imagination. The A.N.S.W.E.R. is out there.

You in the West have your weaknesses as well. The diversity in America, the plethora of foreign-born immigrant communities within your population, are the pride of your melting pot. Yet within these communities we were able to enlist thousands of agents ready to destroy you in case war broke out between us. - Pavel Sudaplatov, Special Tasks p. 4 ...That is the single best reason for resisting the new zeitigeist of "diversity" tolerance and inclusion in the new America.

Even PBS's series "NOVA" has an episode that says McCarthy was right about the
Communist infiltration of the US government (just wrong about who the perps were)...
I think the episode was titled something like "Secrets, Lies and Atomic Spies".

The Political Correct movement is far worse than anything that the Left accused McCarthy of doing. The Communists in today's Democrat Party are those who are pretending to be Socialists hiding behind the Liberal label.

We need to stop running from McCarthy. We need to aggressively dig back into the archives of that era, and put it all out on the table. All of it, of course.
We need to clearly document the Soviet death toll, we need to document for a new generation the how and who of Soviet espionage, and how high and how deep it reached. It actually is a fascinating story.
We need to document for a new generation how it affected our wartime agreements. We need to document how much of Hollywood then, as now, sided with genocide against their own country. How many of the Democrats were open traitors. All of this needs to be explored. McCarthy was a flawed vessel as are we all. But he was not a Stalinist. And most of his targets were.

It's hard to believe, but there are actually still people in this country today pushing the lie that Alger Hiss was innocent of any wrongdoing, even though they know better. These people may not be traitors, but they come pretty damn close in my book.

the more we learn about communism in America, the more McCarthy is proven to have been accurate in his charges. Many people in the State Department truly were security risks; there were individual cases of spies and traitors; and there were many sympathizers with influence over American foreign policy. Based on information not available while the man behind these claims was being condemned
- Arthur Herman, Joseph McCarthy: Re-examining The Life and Legacy of Americas Most Hated Senator. As reviewed by the publisher, Simon & Schuster.
I believe we are in the same position right now, maybe Newt was trying to get this point across a few weeks ago when he suggested a shakeup of the State Dept. Collin Powel did Bush I in and it looks like he's about to do the same thing to W.

Good post. McCarthy went after the ancestors of today's neo-cons who rode the democrat party and Communism to pursue world dominance. That failed.
Today whoever opposes world dominance neo-cons, now infiltrating the Republican party, gets the same smear treatment that McCarthy received.

the los angeles times still runs articles absolving the hollywood communists and blaming republicans.
i wonder if nixon would have continued his presidency if he has not involved himself with the huac investigations, and had not colored helen douglas as "pink"? nixon was always paranoid of the u.s. state department, and for good reason. meanwhile, the american media infiltrated by leftists was out to get him.
hollywood has yet to make a movie admitting the success of america and the downfall of the soviet union.

History continues to prove Joe McCarthy right. Joe had a great nose for fretting out communists and he knew the damage they could do to America. The damage of which we see all around us today.
