WASHINGTON - Prompted by evidence that Iran is harboring top al-Qaida operatives linked to last week's suicide bombings in Saudi Arabia and fears that Tehran may be closer to building a nuclear weapon than previously believed, the Bush administration has begun debating whether to take action to destabilize the Islamic republic, U.S. officials said Thursday.

Why does Rumsfeld try to take over the Secretary of State? I thought the military solution was the option after diplomacy fails. With Rumsfeld the military is the first option and then if the military fails to pacify the country then diplomacy is tried. I would think that Bush would get disgusted with Rumsfeld's meandering into foreign affairs. It's a damned poor way to run a railroad.

Long story short. Secretary's of Defense always think they can do the job of state, and vice versa. Here's its even worse, as Powell is a former 4 star general, who thinks he's qualified to be Defence secretary, while Rumfeld is a former Ambasador (on more then one occasion I believe).

It doesn't help, that in all honesty, Powell hasn't done a very good job. Rumfeld, is more qualified and experienced and knows more in regards to diplomacy then Powell does, Bush likes using Rumsfeld as the bad cop to Powell as the good cop in foreign affairs.

In this case, I think we should undermine Iran's government, and if necessary, use the military option if they get to close to having a nuke, which at that point, I say to hell with it, and go in for regime change.

Saber rattling is far more effective, when the sword has been removed from its sheath, is covered in blood, and there is a head rolling about on the ground, then, people learn to listen and obey a little bit better.

Very nicely said.

We now know that al Qaeda is in Iran, and that Iran are attempting to become a nuclear power.

I vote for destablization and/or regime change. Let's do it for Iran's children...literally.

If ever there was a country where covert targetted assassinations would have a beneficial impact, it's Iran. A military strike isn't necessary when most of the population is pro-western. It's ripe for revolution.

We need to give it a jump start.
