Call to Action on Judges

Posted on 05/23/2003 4:17:39 PM PDT by WillRain

I've never been an "orginizer" and I'm not one now. But I had an idea which I want to throw out and perhaps one of the highly motivated orginizers behind a hundred other FReep campaigns can run with it.

I, like many of you, am beyond disgusted at the ongoing fillibuster of Miguel Estrada. There seems to be, on the whole, little public protest or awareness of the situation so the Democrats feel little public pressure to knock it off.

Here is what I propose: that right thinking Americans keep at least one phone line in every Senators home office tied up throught the business day taking calls on this subject. If one presumes that each phone call can occupy the line for 2 minutes apeice, then for an 8 hour office day the need to recive 240 calls per day.

How hard would it be to line uup 240 residents of each state, along with some alternates to be sure to cover for hinderences, to volenteer to call said office every day at an appointed time? In the whole nation that only comes to 12,000 people. Surely there are that many folks who are commited to the cause enough to do this out of 280 million. That one in every 23,333 folks.

I'm sure that in some cases, such as swing votes, one might be enterprising and find out how many lines they had and keep them ALL tied up. It should also be profitable to keep a line or two on the Congressional switchboard tied up as well (Wouldn't it be nice if everyone who volenteered to call the state office imediatly follwed it with a call to the Congressional Switchboard. If even 10K got through a day it should make a statement).

With all the mobility folks have phone wise now days, how hard would it be for folks to commit to two 2 minute phone calls every day? You could do it while sitting in traffic, or waiting in line for your lunch, or some other point in your day when your time was going to waste anyway. And if it works, it might set a profitable pattern for future similar efforts. At the very least, we could try to gum up the workings of their office like they gum up the workings of the court system. For all I know this is old hat and happens all the time but I've never heard something exaclty like this before.

Is this a dumb idea?

i LOVE YOUR IDEA.

[[[Hey, my keyboard's back to QWERTY!!! YEA!!! DVORAK IS CLEARLY BETTER, but until I learn it--this capricious switching back and forth spontaneously on the part of my ?keyboard? Logitech says it's not their fault; or MS XP? I'm not even trying with them again]]]

Anyway--I'd be happy to sign up for at least 4-8 minutes worth a day for at least 5 days.

The Commie's skullduggery has gone galactic clusters beyond sane and they left moral eons ago.

The idea has merit.

The problem is motivating folks to action. The Free Republic Net Work has the potential for picking up such a task and running with it.

It is definitely worth kicking around as not only a worthwhile endeavor, but as a FRN training exercise to develop communications and methods for action during the coming election year.
