Mary Cheney ducks out of GOP gay group
Advocate ^ | June 2, 2003 | Advocate

Mary Cheney ducks out of GOP gay group Mary Cheney, the lesbian daughter of U.S. vice president Dick Cheney, has resigned from the board of the Republican Unity Coalition slightly more than one year after taking on the largely honorary post with the gay-straight political alliance.

Cheney, who once marketed beer to the gay and lesbian community as an employee of the Coors Brewing Co. of Golden, Colo., has been one of the few key gay rights supporters with close ties to the White House. "Working together, we can expand the Republican Party's outreach to nontraditional Republicans," she said in a statement when she signed on with RUC in April 2002. "We can make sexual orientation a nonissue for the Republican Party, and we can help achieve equality for all gay and lesbian Americans." She made no public statements about her departure, and she did not respond to calls from The Advocate regarding it. In the past she has labored to stay out of the political limelight and to avoid becoming a lightning rod for criticism, pro and con, over gay rights in the contentious GOP.

A source close to the Cheney family said Mary Cheney's resignation from RUC will allow her to pursue business interests in her home state of Colorado, where she lives with her partner, Heather Poe. But some gay activists suggest that there may be more behind the decision, since it comes on the heels of protests from the religious right regarding pro-gay comments by GOP chairman Marc Racicot. "Leaders of the extreme right are demanding that the GOP back away from any association with the gay community," said David Smith, a spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign, a Washington, D.C., gay rights group. "The Right is calling into question what little outreach the party had to gay voters at the crossroads of an election season. While I can't speculate on the reasons for her decision, Mary Cheney's departure definitely comes at an interesting time."

The RUC--which was founded and is chaired by Charles Francis, an openly gay friend of President Bush--also recently announced that David Rockefeller, the 87-year-old scion of the liberal Republican family, would join the group's board.

"You are ill-informed, mentally sick and morally retarded."

You have a teeny-tiny pecker and you and your momma are the only ones who touch it.

Are we done now?

Back to the issue.

Is your position something like this:

[1] There's a high probability that gay men are having
super unheathy sex and a high probability that
straight men are not. And [2] The healthiness of a
candidates sex life is something thath sould be an
super important issue during a campaign.

If that's the idea, it seems like the long quotes are provided in support of [1] and not [2]. Can I hear your argument for point (2)?

Thanks.

You believe oin publicly funded health care?

I believe in publicly funded drug treatment and homosexual therapy through vouchers or faith/non-faith based charities. We should sack Planned Parenthood to make it revenue neutral.

What isn't welcome are special rights for sodomites (adoption, sodomite marriage, etc.).

Exactly. There should be NO planks in the platform that accommodates the practice perversion. If they share and support the same traditional values of conservatives then of course they’re welcome with open arms. Unfortunately their behavioral choices prevent them from completely embracing conservatism, to do so would mean accepting their behavior as immoral.

Maybe republicans should just tell certain groups NOT to vote for them so they won't be accused of 'accepting' the votes of sub-human people. /sarcasm

Who wants that?

Actually I have a good couple dozen posts on this thread so I believe I’ve been paying attention and nobody fits your cynical sloppy attempt at sarcasm?

Go figure?

Rove's model of the electorate seem's to revolve around a rather simplistic normal distribution where a move to the "center" and away from the right would pick up votes.

Rove has stated that "triangulation" does not work, he is partially right, it doesn't work for republicans, only democrats. I think his goal is clear, he for some reason believes that he has done alot for the conservative base, and now can lean a little, and then go even harder in the second term.

Rove's mistake, and one thing Jeb is very good at is, selling the right to the center, not going to it. Reagan didn't go to the center, he brought the center to the right, he moved the center farther and farther rightward. Its called the "sliding rule" of politics. Hence why in europe, far right conservatives would be somewhere on the fringe part of the left side of the democratic party, and conservative to liberal would be green party and communist/socialist here. (not much difference in underlying intent, but claims vary much).

If Rove's goal is to move the economic side farther and farther rights, while bring the social side with him, and tag along that needs to be accepted, that sounds politically viable. The key is, you join us, we do not change for you.

Nader isn't running again.

To the best of my knowledge, he was leaning against it, and was hinting that they might support the democratic party, but I know he did not confirm he wouldn't run, and the green party has not said they wouldn't put up a canidate (you have to remember, Nader won a primary against bigger kooks then him).

My feeling, if they nominate somone like Kerry or Dean, or one of the ultra liberal guys, they won't run, or they will put up a false canidate who's sole job will to register voters, and attack republicans, and will only try and draw votes in safe dem states.

If the canidate is Joe Lieberman, Nader will definatley run, and they will fight all the way against holy joe, they hate him more then the freepers do.

"I take it you were a vocal critic of Rudy Guiliani as well?"

Cheating on ones wife - yes, I DO abhor that behavior. If cheating is okay with you, so be it! Overlook clinotn's behavior as well.

"I think "Daddy" is a bit more intelligent and mature than the gay-obsessed posters on FR and lets his adult daughter make his own decisions on whom she associates with."

Well, excuse me! I suppose ANYONE who opposes homosexuality is "obsessed". LOL! Unfortunately for you, the MAJORITY of people out there OPPOSE homosexuality. stating such is not being "obsessed". I'm not sure Daddy didn't encourage her to stop embarassing him. Since you don't have Cheney's ear, you are unable to say differently.

Me:I'm suprised that you as a Catholic are still defending homosexuality. Most Catholics I know have NO time for homosexuality in the pulpit or in an "honary" position."

You:I'm not defending homosexuality; the fact that some homosexuals support President Bush and the GOP is a good thing, and I don't understand the angst over that by some on this website."

Me: TO NOT have a problem with homos being put into positions of authority, IS to support it. Either you are FOR them or you are against them. I'll let you ponder what famous Christian stated that fact.

Me: I suppose it's only Christians who are offended at homos being purposely put in positions of authority. They are only 1-2% of the population. Yet, Bush goes out of his way to put these freaks into positions of authority.

You: Bush doesn't ask questions about orientation when considering someone for a position in his administration. That's a pretty good policy for a government job.

Me: He doesn't have to "ask". It's obvious as to who is gay and who is not. If someone is so confused and in denial or who they are designed to be attracted to by God, then I have NO confidence in them not being confused by other issues. Clearly they are emotionally distrubed and have NO buisiness in leadership positions.

Not always. In fact, not in the majority of cases.

Maybe we oughtta just shoot them, huh?

Most gays can spell, though.

Can you please cite anywhere or anytime “the intent is very apparent” that nmh, GWB and myself want those who practice perversion NOT to vote for our President? It’s not that big a thread, just use your Ctrl/F and scroll down to our posts and highlight “the very apparent intent” if you don’t mind.

I think you’ll find that we choose our words VERY carefully and your hysterical assumptions are just a knee jerk reaction to something you either don’t understand OR you just choose to follow blinding homosexual propaganda without any reason, am I wrong?

Umm…Conservatives are socially/fiscally conservative and not necessarily religious but one doesn’t preclude the other.
