An Idaho State Patrol motorcycle trooper helped stop a runaway train engine heading west near Nampa at about 1 p.m. today. Federal rail officials said the locomotive, without power, broke away from a train in Boise and rolled to Nampa. The train was stopped without injuries or damage.

Not much happens here in the beautiful northwest. A train runs away and it's big news. I love it here!

Well, it would be helpful to know how the cop stopped the engine. Did he ride along beside it, dump his motorcycle and wrestle it down like a steer? Enquiring minds want to know.

Was it carrying a little sack tied to the end of a stick?
Did they determine why it ran away? Maybe it just wanted to see it anyone could track it down?

No doubt a great ChiPs moment. And we thought such things only happened on the LA freeway system.
Eric Estrada, eat your heart out.

Cripes, what street? My hometown (and current residence) in the news!
So far, the big news around here has been the widening of Garrity Blvd. Everything else is all Boise (the former dishonorable mayor coles and his ilk).

I thought those engines had an external access point for shutdown and activating the brakes. True or false?

In my hometown when I lived at home, an un-manned locomotive section broke loose with the throttle wide open. It ran several miles and over several crossings before turning over on a curve only yards from our house. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

I don't know. It would also have been helpful to know the speed of the engine. Was it creeping, coasting, or barrelling? Those local reporters don't waste many words, do they, especially for a blockbuster story like this?

Was Jon Voigt standing on top of the engine? My late Father-in-Law's favorite flick.

Engine could be heard audibly saying, "I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can."
