SHARPTON SAYS "NO" TO INDY RUN.

In March, Al Sharpton hinted he would consider making an Independent run for President in 2004 if he felt party leaders were unfairly blocking him from being treated as a viable candidate for the nomination. Now, in June 2003, Sharpton has finally shot down that threat: "If I was interested in running as a third-party candidate, I would have done that from the beginning ... I hope to support the nominee, I hope to be the nominee, but I will not be running as a third party," he said on CNN's Crossfire.

Perhaps Sharpton and Jesse Jackson can form "The Huckster Party" and steal about 50% of the votes normally going to Democrats.

It is just logic.

Al wants to win some Democratic primaries. He has decided that threatening to bolt the party would cause a lot of loyal black democrats not to vote for him.

By staying in the party he can convince black democrats to vote for him, so he can negotiate for them at the convention and before the election.

If he were to bold then he would have no clout with the democratic establishment.

Al is just doing what will give Al the most power. Al will win some primary delegates, and he will make the Democratic candidate pay his price.

Thanks, it just came to me. :)

I think I'll use it as a tag line.

The dems must strike a delicate balance to beat Bush. Too far to the right and Greens suck up their base. Too far to the left and the middle votes for Bush.
