They hurt the companies that hire unqualified and unprincipled employees. And they hurt blacks and other minorities who are judged by lower standards.Mmm, this man took the word's right out of my mouth! I spoke them 30 years ago, but I guess things take time!

This is the best short article I think I've ever read.

It's the liberal agenda and hiring only those who will tout same that has brought the Times to disgrace.

Ping.
This is the second challenge I've heard today to the "diversity is a wonderful thing" statement. I won;t call it an argument because I've never heard one shred of supporting evidence.

Jayson Blair is typical of the kind of blacks who seem to get hired by politically correct managers. There are millions of blacks out there with college degrees, and probably hundreds of young blacks better qualified as reporters.
Why Blair, then? We can only speculate, but he must have impressed the editors at the Times as cool, hip, politically correct, and all that. I suspect he may be gay too, like the majority of people working at the Times; but I have not seen any statement to that effect, only speculation.
But it's clear enough that whoever hired him could easily have hired other black candidates who were better qualified for getting on the fast track at the Times. It's a plum job, highly paid, which most people in the profession would jump at.

While this is an interesting article, and God knows I have for years recognized "affirmative action" as being both a political Ponzi scheme and a cynical club for beating down "minorities", I am not convinced that it is the true reason why Jayson Blair got away with what he did.
Based on the NYT's Marxist propensities under Howell Raines, I think it was simply a case of Blair telling the editors what they wanted to hear. The fact that he was black may have blinded them to some of his shortcomings, but the bottom line was that he was delivering the tainted goods they so obviously craved, like a good con artist should.
That's a consequence of the iniquities of agenda-based "journalism", not "affirmative action" (although AA has no shortage of its own sundry evil consequences throughout our society).

I hate the word, "diversity." It's root directly implies that a society headed in myriad opposite directions is somehow a good thing. That is hardly the case.
Whatever happened to "variety"?

Every article in the Brotherhood of a New Destiny is good, and thought-provoking, and its editorials are terrific. This is one of the best I have seen. I highly recommend the B.O.N.D. newletter, as I have been on their mailing list now for several months.

Bio on Jesse Lee PetersonRev. Jesse Lee Peterson
Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is the most articulate, outspoken critic of the civil-rights establishment
in America today. Often referred to as "the other Jesse" and "the antidote to Jesse Jackson," Rev. Peterson is the author of the "National Day of Repudiation of Jesse Jackson" event. As Rev.
Peterson likes to say, "It looks like I have a job for life!" Rev. Peterson is also the man behind the
Boycott of the NAACP, believing the organization to be nothing more than a tool of the "elite, socialist" Democratic Party.
Peterson is the founder and president of the national nonprofit organization BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny, whose purpose is "Rebuilding the Family By Rebuilding the Man." He is also the author of the widely acclaimed book,
"From Rage to Responsibility" as well as a host of nationally-Syndicated radio/TV talk-show and highly sought-after speaker.
Jesse is a frequent guest on major TV and radio programs such as "Hannity & Colmes," "BET Tonight," and "CNN Talk Back Live," consistently leaving his liberal counterpart in knots. His unflappable, can-do attitude and absolute commitment to truth are the perfect medicine for a value-challenged society.
An exceptionally charismatic speaker, Peterson is
a hit among audiences nationwide. Among his popular titles: "Rebuilding the Family By Rebuilding the Man," "Black Leadership's Role in America's Decline," "The Seven Guaranteed Steps to Spiritual, Family and Financial Success," and "Abortion: Black Genocide,"
Character is the most important word in Peterson's vocabulary. Born on a plantation in Midway, Ala., Rev. Peterson is this generation's Booker T. Washington. Jesse practices what he preaches, operating the BOND Home for Boys, a character-building after-school program and many other programs that
benefit men and their families. His organization is a prototype for a bold new approach to solving our ever-increasing urban crisis.
Rev. Peterson is an advisory board member of
Project 21, and a board member of the California Christian Coalition.

It's even worse than the article suggests. There are upward mobility programs in a lot of large employers. This is NOT race-based affirmative action -- these are programs intended to identify young employees who lack the formal credentials, but who show promise for future advancement. They are placed in, essentially, training positions, and are given a mentor, and taught the things they need to know in order to qualify for the real deal, despite their lack of formal education. Do you suppose that if Blair had not been black, he might have received that sort of HELP, so that he would have a chance to grow into a real reporter (at least by the NYT's standards)? Maybe. But he wasn't. He was an affirmative action trophy, and once they had him up on the mantel, they didn't care how well he did (or didn't) do his job. There's no evidence of any intervention on the part of older and wiser heads, no attempt to show him how he should be doing things. Because theydidn't care about anything but his skin color. And they call us racists. Pathetic.
