Trust Hillary? Only Pre-Signed Copies at Living History 'Book Signing' Events
FR Exclusive | Saturday, June 7, 2003 | Kristinn

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton ('Rat-NY) is embarking on a summer-long book signing tour across the country to promote her memoirs, Living History, the product of her $8 million deal with publisher Simon & Schuster.

Fans expecting to witness the former First Lady personally autographing copies of her book will instead be given editions with an additional pre-signed page inserted in the book.

Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena, California, where Mrs. Clinton is scheduled to make her only appearance for the book in southern California on June 29, states on their Website that they have been assured that the author is personally signing the inserts. A Vroman's employee said that the publisher has informed the store that Mrs. Clinton is having difficulty keeping up with the expected demand for autographed books.

Another store, Trover Books in Washington, D.C., where Mrs. Clinton will appear on June 12, has informed the public that for security reasons, no photography will be allowed at her 'book signing'.

Vroman's has not been informed yet whether photography will be allowed at their store. Their Website states that people attending Mrs. Clinton's 'book signing' will be given a voucher for each autographed book purchased. They will "get to say hello and shake hands with the Senator"--an arrangement more akin to a receiving line than a traditional book signing. The vouchers will be exchanged for the autographed books afterward.

Authors much more accomplished in life than the freshman Senator, such as Lady Margaret Thatcher, the former British Prime Minister who helped win the Cold War, and retired Army General Norman Schwarzkopf, who led American forces to victory in the Gulf War, have labored to sign books in person without photography restrictions at appearances to promote their respective books.

Given Mrs. Clinton reputation of dishonesty in public matters, one wonders if 'ghost signers' will be employed to autograph Living History like ghost writers were used to write the book itself.

A good sign for a hillary FReep would be; "Did the same ghost who wrote your books hire Craig Livingstone, too?"

Since you welcome questioning, can you enligthen me what a "Geraldo Handshake" is?

Oh, how I would love to get in line to NOT shake her hand and to tell her where to cram her lying-ass book.

Will Hitlery sign the autographed "inserts" herself? Or will she hire someone to forge her signature for her? Or will they be mechanical reproductions of her signature? I wouldn't put it past Hitlery to authorize forged autographs.

They should just let the ghost writers sign Hillarys' name in the books.

It'd be a hell of a lot more genuine that way.

I guess signing books is beneath "Empress Hillary"

I bet it's going to be "ghost signers".

"Scary to think that Hillary could have a double. "

Well, Saddam had several, so who knows about Hillary. LOL

But I don't really think she has a body double.

Any FReepers have suggestions for the Hillary! non-book signing posters when we FReep her on Thursday?

I love kcar's idea of hitting the book with shoes. (Actually, I suggest printing out posters of the book cover; I seldom discourage people from buying books, but in this case....)

Poster idea:

Only in America, can we as a nation, create the myth of a living God walking upon our land; most nations force the idea upon their subjects. BTW, I am still trying to find her Master's thesis .... somehow, its all gone from everywhere!

...anything written by Shillary,(like the devils' own handwriting) can't be copied...Her cardinal rule.

...that Hillary has a deepseated distaste for, and phobia of, the public at large. It's pretty clear that she simply cannot handle unscripted appearances and also avoids as much as she possibly can appearances in front of any groups except handpicked ones.

...a sure sign of a weak pol...no confidence in herself, no true 'smarts', only public posturing...when in public "the usual DNC supects surround" her, choking off any unexpected questions, that may upset her carefully staged appearance...in short "all preception, no substance"...just like BUBBA.... :|

"can you enligthen me what a "Geraldo Handshake" is?"

It's original context was when certain members of our military shook the hand of Gerarldo after he was sent out of Iraq and back to Quatar. It was reported that some of these soldiers had first placed their hands in "unmentionable places" before the manual greeting. This is an old prank which usually takes the form of putting a glob of vaseline in one's palm before the shake.

I had the oportunity to meet and shake hands with Colin Powell, Lauren Bacall and Martin Luther King Sr. at their book signings. All of these were good experiences. I wouldn't get within a mile of the Rat from Arkansas.

Really? I've been to two book signings (Tom Clancy near the Sub Base in Ct- a total madhouse; and Don and Fred Imus at Mohegan Sun Casino)and both times the authors were writing so frantically that I felt like I was intruding to offer a personal comment.

We did take a couple of pictures of Tom Clancy- and then promptly lost the film :(

Seems to me shaking hands in a receiving line is much more personal. Odd that Hillary! would do that.

Yep! Great after FReep thread! Hehehe..I loved it. And think of the possibilities for future FReeps. Imagine, Baghdad Bob vouching for the credibility of Hillary's book or the RAT presidential nominee.

With Colin Powell we were able to talk to his front man and give him a special set of BDU's (battle dress uniform) my husband disigned. Within a week we received a personal hand written note from Mr. Colin Powell thanking us for the outfit and telling us how he enjoyed wearing them while working on his vintage car. We did get to shake his hand and at least say hello.

I forgot to mention I also went to a book signing by Octavia E. Butler who writes very interesting sience fiction books. She signed four of my paper backs and spent a few minutes chatting with my husband and I. Yeah it was a small signing but very enjoyable being able to spend time actually getting to know an author who's work you really enjoy.

I wonder if Hillary's signing will be like cattle moving through an assembly line. We'll see. Shake the hand move along, move along, quickly now
