Trust Hillary? Only Pre-Signed Copies at Living History 'Book Signing' Events
FR Exclusive | Saturday, June 7, 2003 | Kristinn

Posted on 06/07/2003 11:08:26 AM PDT by kristinn

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton ('Rat-NY) is embarking on a summer-long book signing tour across the country to promote her memoirs, Living History, the product of her $8 million deal with publisher Simon & Schuster.

Fans expecting to witness the former First Lady personally autographing copies of her book will instead be given editions with an additional pre-signed page inserted in the book.

Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena, California, where Mrs. Clinton is scheduled to make her only appearance for the book in southern California on June 29, states on their Website that they have been assured that the author is personally signing the inserts. A Vroman's employee said that the publisher has informed the store that Mrs. Clinton is having difficulty keeping up with the expected demand for autographed books.

Another store, Trover Books in Washington, D.C., where Mrs. Clinton will appear on June 12, has informed the public that for security reasons, no photography will be allowed at her 'book signing'.

Vroman's has not been informed yet whether photography will be allowed at their store. Their Website states that people attending Mrs. Clinton's 'book signing' will be given a voucher for each autographed book purchased. They will "get to say hello and shake hands with the Senator"--an arrangement more akin to a receiving line than a traditional book signing. The vouchers will be exchanged for the autographed books afterward.

Authors much more accomplished in life than the freshman Senator, such as Lady Margaret Thatcher, the former British Prime Minister who helped win the Cold War, and retired Army General Norman Schwarzkopf, who led American forces to victory in the Gulf War, have labored to sign books in person without photography restrictions at appearances to promote their respective books.

Given Mrs. Clinton reputation of dishonesty in public matters, one wonders if 'ghost signers' will be employed to autograph Living History like ghost writers were used to write the book itself.

"I would have to call that commercial fraud."

You seem to think that Hillary would be less than honest. Is that any attitude to have about the wife of the "most moral man in America?"

Freepers should get in line and take off a shoe to hit the picture on the bookcover. That would be an act of symbolism that maybe even the media would report.

That's the truth! Of course, Hillary doesn't like Arkansas or the people much, which is just fine by me. The feeling is certainly mutual.

Well, they DID have many more years to make enemies here than in the population on the whole and I have no doubt that they have some bitter enemies here.

"I wonder if they will rough up protesters, illegaly seize video cameras, etc"

Our D.C. contingent has had a fair amount of experience dealing with this snobbish hag and her goons. Still, I do hope y'all are prepared for such eventualities and have back-up cameras at the ready in case there should be any problems. Good luck. I am looking forward to the after-FReep report on this one!

As I posted earlier to Kristinn, I am especially fond of the idea of having Baghdad Bob hawking her book as the genuine article, full of truth and emotion. Doctor Raoul's NYT performance was a classic!

"Would the senator be trying to avoid the embarrassment of one of her adoring fans handing her a book other than Living History, say...Barbara Olson's Hell to Pay?"

That was my first thought. Must be hell to know that you are so hated while trying to delude yourself into believing you are worshipped.

"Mrs. Clinton is having difficulty keeping up with the expected demand for autographed books. "

she doesn't know if she's to "sign the books"; or the boxes that they are shipped in; one box signed = 48 books signed.
sorta like "sleazer of the house", jim wright's book, with all the blank pages...
as long as n.y. times keeps it #1 on their list...

no photography will be allowed at her 'book signing'.
Smart move. That way, nobody can compare the
air-brushed book cover to the real thing.

She doesn't want flashes going off in her face,
which is perfectly understandable.  And to allow
pictures without flash, well, if you knew how Hillary
looks under fluoruescent overhead lighting, you
wouldn't ask.  ;)

One reason she wants no cameras is because (this is my theory) the line of customers waiting to shake her hand will be the same people over and over, to make it look like everyone loves her. Part of the $8 million is being used to buy copies of her own book to make it a bestseller, and to insure that most of the people who attend the "booksignings" are loyal (paid) sycophants.

I think someone should give her a "Geraldo Handshake." (Nothing up my sleeve, just on my palm.)

I had the oportunity to meet and shake hands with Colin Powell, Lauren Bacall and Martin Luther King Sr. at their book signings. All of these were good experiences. I wouldn't get within a mile of the Rat from Arkansas.

"will instead be given editions with an additional pre-signed page inserted in the book."

I think there will be a major backlash from even her staunchest supporters if she tries this.

Also, I am very doubtful that there will be a hand shaking receiving line.

Nice work on the post.
