So, what's all this hype about record breaking sales. For goodness sakes, the "The Witch, Hillary & The Slime, Sid" never made it to #1. Someone is spinning someone! What's the story Simon & Shuster?

Time to call up those supporters of the CLinton and threaten, I mean encourage them to go stock up on this timeless piece of work...yeah right...Don't you just wish we could have a 24 hour wish list like that kid had in "Liar, Liar" and put Bill and Hillary on the truth watch! What a fun time THAT would be if they were forced to tell the truth...

Don't you get the feeling something is funny about the sales numbers.
I have a vague recollection of someone making a charge that some wealthy friends bought up tons and tons of an author's book, just to later unload them at a loss...as a ligit way to "reward" the author.
Who was it and what was the book?

Hillary! doesn't care if she ever sells another book. The only reason she wrote this one was to 'inoculate' herself, i.e. she can dismiss any future uncomfortable questions by stating that 'she already addressed that issue in her book'. The big loser is S&S, who thought that Hillary would write an honest memoir that would sell huge.

I'm afraid it was Newt Gingrich's book from right after the '94 elections.

Amazon doesn't list fiction and nonfiction separately. harry Potter has been number one since February. NY Times hasn't listed for this week, but I suspect the wicked witch will spend at least a week as number one. The new York Times made a special rule a couple of years ago specifically to exclude harry Potter from their list.

I've written two books, one self-published and one from a major NYC publisher, so I know how the business works; and I've been saying since day one that nobody should believe the PR releases from the publisher about the giant sales of this book. I have no doubt it shipped big to the stores, but I think it will be shipping nearly as big back to the publishers. I predict it will be like the soundtrack to the movie of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," which got a double platinum album award for shipping so many copies to stores, then 99 percent of them were returned, and it infested remainder bins for years afterward. The debacle led to them changing the rules for what wins a platinum or gold record. I also said from day one that more than half the copies of this book that will ever sell will have been sold within a week of its release, and I stand by that.

How is it that the new Harry Potter book, in different forms, make up four of the top ten positions on Amazon? (Guess Hillary's book got people in the mood for more stories about witches.)

I went to Costco yesterday and there were stacks of Hillary's and Sid's books. Sid's stack looked untouched, while Hillary's stack was maybe one book thickness below Sid's.
I wasted 10 minutes watching to see if anybody took one -- just a few browsers who opened Hill's book to the inside cover, then quickly put it down. Hill's book was discounted to $17 already.

I was at Costco on Saturday - not a single soul picked up the Hillary opus. Hah! And the price was $15.49. The publisher has a lot of books to sell at that price to cover that $8M advance.

Same thing at the Costco in my town. Hillary!s book was prominently displayed but only a few were missing from the huge stack. So what, exactly, is the penalty for taking a leak on a big ol' pile of books down at the local Costco? And if you have to reimburse the store for the cost of the books, would that constitute a sale?

Here is the
LINK to Hillary's book. But it's even worse than you think. Hillary's book got beaten out in the #3 slot by a NON-FICTION book called
THE PATHWAY. Since Hillary's book has been hyped as the best selling non-fiction book in history with over 600,000, this must mean that
The Pathway is doing EVEN BETTER. But has anybody even heard of this book before. I know for sure it hasn't had even 10% of the hype of Hillary's book yet it has beaten out the Hillary book even though it was published way back in January of this year.
News organizations really need to look into the PHONY HYPE being conducted by Simon & Schuster.

I wasn't accusing Uncle Newtie of being unethical. People bought the book with their own money, though partly motivated by a desire to inflate the numbers.
Jim Wright lost his speakership by using his book as a cynical fund-raising technique in order to skirt campaign-finance laws, which is behavior of an entirely different nature.

Here's a list of books that were bought with Hillary!s book:
An Unfinished Life: John F. Kennedy, 1917-1963 by Robert Dallek (Hardcover)
Leap of Faith: Memoirs of an Unexpected Life by Queen Noor (Hardcover)
The Woman Who Wouldn't Talk by Susan McDougal, et al (Hardcover)
Big Lies: The Right-Wing Propaganda Machine and How It Distorts the Truth by Joe Conason (Author) (Hardcover)
The Hunting of the President: The Ten-Year Campaign to Destroy Bill and Hillary Clinton by Joe Conason, Gene Lyons (Hardcover)
Hillary!s book is only popular with lefties--not a good sign for S&S.

Any time a publisher or anyone else declares victory that early in the game - We won! We're brilliant! Envy us! It's been a whole day and we have the best book OF ALL TIME!!!!!!! - it's pretty clear they know they won't have much to brag about a little further down the road.
I'm sure S&S made all sorts of deals to spread out its risk, and was probably in the black on this before the witch even hired someone to write the book.

I'm afraid it was Newt Gingrich's book from right after the '94 elections.
I think the book in question was by Jim Wright, Texas Dim, and Speaker of the House. Wright got unions and other Dim contributors to buy the book in bulk as a way of laundering money to him. Gingrich rode Wright out of the House over the book and Dims never forgave Gingrich.
Gingrich signed a deal after he became speaker that generated so much outrage among Dims and their lapdogs at ABCCBSNBCCNN he eventually said "screw it" and renounced the advance.

They seem to be counting the store orders, not the consumer sales. The book is heavily discounted everywhere, in hopes of moving the books off the shelves. Costco is pushing the book on their website for 15.00.
