Presidential Catfight: Hillary vs. Condi in 2008?
Fox News ^ | 6/18/03 | Jennifer D.Angelo

NEW YORK — No woman has ever received a major party nomination for the presidency, but some have speculated that in 2008, not one, but two women could be competing for the White House.

In recent interviews, New York Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton (search) said she had “no intention” of running for president in 2008 -- but did not rule it out, leading many to believe a race is possible. And if the former first lady were to run, some say National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice (search) would be the perfect Republican to run against her.

“I’ve been speculating on that [match-up] for a year and half,” said GOP strategist Cheri Jacobus. “The greatest strength Hillary has is she’s a woman in what many consider a man’s world. If the GOP candidate were [a] woman as well, she’d have to run on merit, not on ‘I’m a woman hear me roar,’” Jacobus said.

Both women have plenty of merits. Born in Chicago on Oct. 26, 1947, Clinton grew up in Park Ridge, Ill., and is a 1973 graduate of Yale Law School. She worked as an attorney while her husband was governor of Arkansas and performed the duties of the nation's first lady for eight years. On Nov. 7, 2000, Clinton became the first first lady to be elected to the U.S. Senate. She is also an established author and advocate of women’s rights and public works projects for her state of New York.

Born Nov. 14, 1954, in segregation-era Birmingham, Ala., Rice got her Ph.D. from the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies in 1981. A former political science professor and provost of Stanford University, she was President George H.W. Bush’s adviser on Soviet affairs before becoming the current President Bush’s national security adviser.

On the issues, Hillary is regarded by many as a liberal who tried and failed to nationalize health care.

“The worst thing the Democrats can do is to nominate Hillary. She’s so far to the left that the center would be turned off,” said Republican strategist Paul Pelletier.

However, I really want her to straighten out the mess the Democrats made of California as Governor Rice.

You're probably going to get Ah-nold first - seriously. He's interested in doing just what you said.

While it sounds great here in America for the two women running for president, it would never work for us to have a woman president. You think America has trouble now in dealing with foreign countries, just try when a woman is president. So many of the foreign countries think of women as "less than third class citizens", they would not even schedule a meeting with the US. Sorry, but I think this is the way it is.

If you think like that, I have two words for you - Margaret Thatcher.

Do we really want to be like Britain or any of the other Euro countries? I don't think so. Do you think Margaret Thatcher really leads or is just a figure head? Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Condi as President, just don't think the world would take us seriously.

I postulated this possibility some time ago. I think Cheney will step aside as running mate for a second term citing "health reasons" and do it too late for hillary to react in 2004. Then Condi will go against hillary as a successor to G.W.

The dems must think so too - they are compiling a massive dirt file on Condi.

My bet is VA Sen. George Allen

Opps, forgot about him. Excellent choice. Son of George Allen the excellent football coach, solid credentials...

Once the road map debacle plays out, Rice won't even be able to be elected dog catcher.

I don't think people see Rice as playing a key role, it's Bush who's put his prestige on the line... For what it's worth, I think Bush will come out smelling like roses when all is said and done. Either he gave it his all, and terrorism destroyed the road map, whereby he can say that he won't get involved again until both parties want peace and terrorism is eradicated in the region, or it will bear fruit. Either way, it's a win-win IMO.

albeit far-fetched (possibility of these 2 going against each other)

True, but I'd pay good money to watch!

I'm more worried about VICE President Rodham-Clinton. Think of it:

• She keeps he promise not to run for president in '04
• Two years and one day into her term the first slotter gets arkincided
• Under Article XXII, she can still run for two full terms as the incumbent
• The Hillary!™ Decade begins
• At the end of the Hillary!™ Decade there is a National Emergency "temporarily" delaying the elections
• Under the pressure of the National Emergency, the 2nd and 22nd amendments are repealed...

NEVER FORGET

Since the CLINTONS refused 3 Free Offers to extradite OSAMA bin LADEN to America to stand trials for his Terrorist Acts against us during the 1990's, trials that would have prevented the Sept. 11th Attacks against us in advance, perhaps we all should:

God, one can only hope to have such a well educated and experienced woman such as Condi Rice, to take on the hildebeast. No contest. (Wish she would take California first!)

I say Bill Owens. He is the conservative Governor of CO. I think he has done a great job there. He is both articulate and effective. Hopefully his profile will rise at exactly the right time.

Nonsense.

I would vote for her and I am pro-life. My one concern would be if she got to appoint some SCOTUS justices.

lol

Even if Bush fails, he will get points for trying. People won't vote against him and other folks in the administration just for the roadmap.

What a stupid thought you have had....incredibly dense.

A pro-abort will not win the GOP primary.

Perhaps that landscape is beginning to change. If Roe v. Wade were to be overturned by 2008, if not by case law then by Norma McCorvey's request for appeal, then a "pro-abort" would be the rebel position and a pro-choice candidate would be put in the position of saying the age-old mantra "I personally believe... but will enforce the law of the land."

Who knows?

I'd ignore LarrM at all costs. Here are some of his posts, and these are the NICER of them. He also calls Bush a moron. Good job Larry. Either everyone bows at Israel's feet on everything, or they're called every name in the book. What foolish comments.

"She's too nice to Bush. He has, through his actions, embraced the evil terrorists, and destroyed the moral clarity of the war on terror"...

"Bush's moral clarity has gone down the tubes."...

"If he continues appeasing Arab terrorists, the war on terror will be lost and he will lose the next election."...

"We need to add this 7-year-old girl to the Bush deathwatch. Another victim of Bush's appeasement."...

"The Bush Adminsitration is creating terrorist sanctuaries. This looks like a very effective technique for fighting terror."...

"I don't think things could be worse than Bush's Munich Agreement. Even Al Gore would not have done something like this."...

"Bush will be run out of town on a rail in November 2004. He is the greatest appeaser in recorded history."...

"God save the people of Israel from the depradations of George Bush and his oil-stained family."...

"George Bush is Arafat's protector. But isn't he fighting a war against terrorism? Apparently, terrorists who murder Israelis are not worthy of the same treatment as terrorists who murder non-Jewish Americans."...

"The bankruptcy of the Bush Administration is clear for all to see."...

"However, over the past 30 days Bush has been closing his immorality gap with Clinton rapidly."...

The "road map" proves that Bush is nothing more than a Saudi stooge, just like his oil-stained daddy"

Smooth, isn't he?
