The hunt for candidates who hold guns sacred
The Newark Star Ledger ^ | 06.23.03

As is their custom, the guns "r" us guys and gals have sent a questionnaire to legislative candidates to learn where they stand on firearms issues.

Leaders of Gun Owners of America, a National Rifle Association affiliate, will grade the responses, and voters will be alerted as to which side of the Great Gun Divide a given candidate comes down.

Yea, I was wondering that too. I guess the columnist got his facts wrong, again. GOA is for gun rights, NRA who knows.

Of course it isnt', but that statement is as accurate as the rest of the editiorial.

The gun grabbers still don't "get it". It's not about guns, it's about the Constitution and Freedom. They want to grab and ban guns, they can amend the Constitution to not only eliminate the second amendment's protection, but also to grant the government power to do so.

That said, they still can't have mine. Sorry, it's an inalienable right, which we are endowed with by our Creator.

Police Chief William Bratton argued these weapons are dangerous and serve no legitimate purpose.

It's not about legitimate purposes, and even if it were, who the hell does the non-elected public employee, Chief Bratton, think he is to determine what is, and what is not, "legitimate"? "Shall not be infringed", doesn't say anthing about "legitimate", for which they really mean "legitimate sporting", purposes.

Actually a .50 BMG rifle would have come in right handy when those armor wearing bank robbers were spraying bullets hither and yon in the Chief's jurisdiction a few years ago.

The 2nd Amendment is becoming one of the few dwindling reasons I vote GOP.

If ignorance is bliss, then this writer has got to be one of the happiest people around. The GOA is not an 'affiliate' of the NRA.

The GOA should be so lucky.

There may be some good reasons for voting GOP.

Being pro-2nd Amendment isn't one of them.

That's the truth! Still the whole thing could've been ended if any of those 50 cops had been a good enough marksman to score a head shot with a little ol 9mm. Heck, when they hit the nearby gunshops for backup firepower to make things "equal" not realizing that volume of fire without hits does not "firepower" make...they should have taken a deer rifle like maybe even a .30-30 and gone for the head shot then. Sheeesh I think that whole situation was a point of national shame for the LAPD for their lousy marksmanship.

Once again the intellectually dense attempt to shift the focus toward inanimate objects. I don't know of anyone sane who regards firearms as "sacred." I certainly don't. What I consider "sacred" is a list of rights, among which only one is the right to own the means of self-defense from persons or from the State, that persons such as the author would lightly dismiss in the pathetic desire to feel safer, in the ridiculous masquerade of being "empowered" enough to do something about violence when all he really intends to do is apply that violence in a slightly different form to perfectly honest citizens he has decided to demonize.

This is my key issue when selecting a politician to vote for.
It's not my only issue buut it is my key issue.
If a politician doesn't trust me enough to let me carry a gun I don't trust them enough to cast a vote for me in the legislature.

Excellent point! I just may use that when I write my legislators a letter.

You got that right, Soldier!

Spray 'n Pray just will not work. Never did, never will.

I'd rather have one sharpshooter with a single-shot rifle on my side than 10 full-auto-dipsticks.

Rounds that do not impact on target just make noise.

Ok...going to incrimenate myself here for your benefit.

Benefit meaning some insight for all to work with.

I grew up in the "Pizza Triangle" gun ownership to me meant gangsters. Now, I've been involved with politicians since early on only because a friend of mine's father was running for mayor. And yet, look at my conditioning...

I only learned of the rights that were being taken away with guns since I've been on here (FreeRepublic). I'm exposing myself so you can all see from 'conditioning' what our rights have to overcome versus what the knowledge is versus what others have not been exposed to.

I have a friend who is moving to TN, and when he gets there he stated that in 8 hrs. he can have a handgun and will be able to carry it. What a difference 700 miles makes. And the crime rate is NOT higher because they carry guns.

I posted this on another thread but it is very applicable to this one, so I'll repost.

I lay the blame on the public schools and their anti-freedom AGENDA. The liberals have to be thrown a bone on this idea (because conservatives were too short sighted to see the potential here) because they knew that in order to achieve their radical plans, they'd have to ensnare a whole generation and twist it's viewpoints and it would have to take place over the course of several generations. So they infiltrated (that's the correct word, too) Education.

I've been a public school teacher for almost fifteen years here in South Florida and in that time, I have had the opportunity to well document and fight this agenda. In this district the anti-2nd Amendment view point is overwhelming. There is a general pro United Nations world view that is promulgated at the same time. It starts in elementary school and continues into middle school with United Nations Day where every class decorates it's doors with posters of different nations and the world body for a contest. Social studies classes discuss the UN goals and achievements.....in high school, the agenda turns on social issues wherein only one view is put forth....like gun control being the way to make the world safe. OR that the UN is the only world body that should have an army and be able to use it in defense of all nations (barf alert!)OR a one sided view of what pro-choice means.....you can think of more examples, I'm sure.

I teach MY students that this "one view" on any subject is an agenda and an agenda makes you a puppet without free will. You'd be amazed at the anger that sparks up when they see what's happened to them for all these years.

It's time for conservatives to take back the schools and it's going to be a damn near impossible battle because so entrenched are the liberals that they also control the hiring process and the curriculum that drives the agenda. But, just as Jeremiah Johnson had to hunt to survive...we must try, if we are to survive.
