I don't know much about DSL, but I've had very few problems with my Cox Commuications cable high-speed internet.

I looked into DirctWay service once. $539.00 for the equip and setup plus monthly fees, what if it rains? My TV goes out everytime a storm comes along.

I use RR cable ($44.95/month)

I had cable, and after being initially impressed in the vast improvement over dialup, I ultimately became very dissatisfied. Intermittant outages, slow times every evening, email outtages, and the world's most incompetant customer service prompted me to dump first the cable internet access and then the cable TV. DSL finally became available in my area so that's what enabled the switch to a different high-speed connection. The DSL (from Bellsouth) has so far been faster, especially uploading, and extremely reliable. The DSL also eliminated the pesky problems with the script kiddies. The modem has a router built in, so if you want to share the connection all you need is a switch.

Had DSL at work and have cable at home. DSL was fine with about 10 users, and it worked just fine. We wwere in an area in close proximity to the tel company, so our signal was strong. Cable at home is fine.

Now with 25 users at work we went with 2 T-1's for voice and data...They are good.

I've had Cable for a year and a half now and even though most of my neighborhood is also on cable (and thus on the same subnet), I have experienced no dropoff in performance. It's still as fast as ever.

I got sick of waiting for DSL to come to my neighborhood and I have heard nothing but horror stories from people that did get it.

I have the opposite problem. I tried for a year to get the local cable company to wire my building for cable so I could get TV/Internet/Phone all on one bill, but for reasons I don't pretend to understand, they didn't.

When I got my new Dell PC, I signed up for Yahoo-Broadband at the same time.

WOW!!!

One day I was on a 100 MHz computer and a 28.8k modem, the next day I was running at 1.8 GHz on a 12mbps BB account.

I have never had more fun with my clothes on than this!

Direcway is the safest way to have a crappy connection!!!

Good luck trying to use it if it's raining, as you say.

"Oh, by the way,...er, um...I'm an AOL subscriber"

I am not sure it is a shame to still be on dialup...

But to admit to still using AOL in public is truly a cry for help.

I've used cable for a couple of years now, and am very impressed with it. I cannot speak for DSL, because I've never used it. I do, however know a couple of people that use DSL, and they seem to be happy with it. I guess what I would recommend to you is to see what service is available to you, and comparison shop. If you can get one of the other for a better price, go with it.

I get my tv from the phone company...100+ basic channels, 45 music channels, 29 movie channels, and 768kb/s DSL internet in one package, in a town of just over 8,000 people in North Iowa.

Cable modem is much faster than DSL, costs a bit more, but it's worth it to me. $45/month for cable modem.

I am not sure it is a shame to still be on dialup...

Well, if prices keep going down, in 5 years it will.

Cheap cable and DSL can be as low as $29.95/month

I've been on Verizon DSL for more than a year now, and its 100% reliable. They just dropped the price from 49/mo to 34/mo. What more could I ask for?
