It is legal to carry a handgun if the owner has a concealed handgun permit, unless a sign is posted prohibiting weapons.

I believe I've seen this mentioned before, and I'm curious. It appears that, if the owner has a permit, then they have a right to carry a concealed gun -- unless a property owner (such a s restaurant, or lunch counter) posts a sign saying "No guns allowed" -- which, property rights being what they are, trumps the right to bring a gun to the lunch counter.

Is that the thinking? And what if the lunch counter has a sign saying it won't serve African-Americans? Do property rights come into play there?

This is almost as funny as a story that happened here about 11 years ago. A 19 year old youth who thought a 9mm would be a fashionable accessory at the local roller skating rink placed the weapon in his waistband. Later, at the rink, after becoming embroiled in a fated controversy, he drew his weapon and fired on a fellow youth and succeeded in hitting his rival/target in the leg. Before turning to flee, our modern gunslinger placed his trusty semi-automatic back in his waistband but forgot to remove his finger from the trigger. Poetic Justice ensued but I never found out if the partial reattachment was successful.
