DPB101, I don't know why you have not had more responses that you have on this thread.
Instead of 41 you should have gotten at least 4100.
I am bumping it again and if necessary I will bump it agin next week.

Thanks. I probably should have condensed more and written a brief intro. But there is so much in the transcripts, it was difficult to get it this short. Is there a veteran's flag list on FR? They should be interested.

Bump/Ping - please check this out, if you haven't (this post in particular).

16 other servicemen testified about Korean War atrocities. An enterprising reporter should track them down and get their take on Joe McCarthy and the hearings. They may not even know their testimony has been made public.

Burp guns are not mentioned anymore are they? In the 1950s, every kid wanted a toy burp gun. Or a grease gun. They were stubby little automatics. Like an Uzi.

Great Read.
Sergeant Rhoden: Since I was a kid, Ive loved stories about folks doing heroic things by overcoming fear. This is another extraordinary story. (I wasnt two months old when he was captured.)
McCarthys Senate Committee; HUAC; Cold War: Both of my parents loved politics and were anti-communists. From the time that I was just little kid, I was raised listening to them (and others) discuss/debate the cold war and its domestic implications. Were my father still alive, hed really love to read these newly released transcripts. People who werent around in the fifties have no idea how important all this stuff was at the time. If asked, I'm sure my mother (who is still alive) would place great emphasis on the words "at the time" in the last sentence. And, of the two, she had the better political instincts.
Mr. Hacko (Post 16): Am I supposed to feel sorry for this guy? The whole examination couldnt have lasted more than 15 or 20 minutes. Ive been through much worse. And recently, I might add. ;-)
Thanks for the ping. Good stuff!!

I now believe the dems used McCarthy's committee to exploit simply because the meetings were closed - and they could use him with impunity!
If nothing more - Ann's book and these released documents can set the record straight and expose the EXTREME LEFT WING DEMOCRATS.

There was nothing so terrible about America - except Freedom, and their lust for power.

Wow!! What a statement. The dems preferred disgrace - in the form of a characterless president - while the repubs prefer momentary danger in order to have peace.
Hmmmm?? Interesting!

If you (or anyone else) would like additional excerpts from the just released transcripts, send a private reply.
Other topics include: Oppenheimer, treason in the State Department, espionage at the Ft. Monmouth Army labs, possible sabatoge at the Voice of America, governmental purchase of books by writers who were members of the CPUSA, an anticommunist Russia who lost his job after testifying about communist influence, a contract on McCarthy's life by the CPUSA and so on. Mr Hacko above is just one example of the lunatics with whom McCarthy had to deal.
