This will answer questions from Freepers about how the Campaign can see the Grassroots is donating with their $4 added to their donations to Bush-Cheney! The listing of donors will soon be on-line!

I remember during the attempted theft in Florida in 2000, Bush-Cheney listed ALL donors from $1.00 on up.
The Gore campaign refused to list ANYONE. Not that it matters with regard to this post, but it made me remember.

I'm not ashamed to give to Bush, but I really think that this information should be kept private. First, the FEC lists names and addresses of all donors, even if those donors aren't listed! So if you give over $200 to any political candidate once, everyone knows your address. They also know your job and where you work. And you can search by company, so the CEO can see if there are any Dems or Republicans or pro-lifers or pro-choicers at the company. I guess campaign finance reform is the opposite of privacy.

Any ChiCOM contributors or major contributions from companies who are against a more combative stance toward the PRC? Don't have time myself to look at the site but if anyone else has this would be good info to deal with now and to use it to influence Bush prior to the election to steer clear of it.

In addition, the campaign will put up all the donors who gave less than $200, and there will be about 80,000 of those (and, remember, that listing those donors is NOT required by the FEC), and the campaign will get to about 80% of those listed in that category with full information, which is extraordinary. There goes my 199 dollar check to the campaign. This is an incredibly stupid move on their part. I work very hard to keep my personal information out of the pulbic domain. I am not going to simply send them a check so they can post my home address and employer on the internet.
Also, it's not a very big deal for me, but a lot of people won't give knowing that their co-workers can look up their political contributions.
Whoever thought of this is an outright idiot and should be fired immediately.
