The problem with military weapons in recent years has not been rate of fire, but ammunition supply.

The technology has a long history, going back to maybe the 16th Century. Modern electronics makes the difference.
Electrical propellant ignition is used a lot, and the Russians made an interesting throw away almost non-metallic pistol with it. This Fire Storm business is essentially single use, ammunition and firearm are one thing, technology intended for automated use.

metal storm is old news, it was around years ago.
I wonder how the electronics get around a decent EMP weapon. Zap and the army is disarmed, not good.

The problem with Metal Storm seems to be that while the bullets leave the barrel very quickly, there is no corresponding method for quick reloading.
