This is pretty speculative. What is it based on? Was there a straw vote or something? I don't think anyone really knows which state is going to win, or who's in the lead. I see more articles about Montana and Wyoming than New Hampshire.

One clue is the number of Porcupine participants in the candidate states' discussion groups, usually run as *Yahoo groups* discussion boards. New Hampshire is indeed well-represented, but so too are Montana and Wyoming. It's interesting to note the numbers of those already resident in the proposed states, who are going to be a particularly helpful asset as the *Porcupine Welcome Wagon* once the moves start taking place. Too, quite a few of the western region porcupines would happily settle in any of the state's in that region [Idaho/Wyoming/North Dakota/South Dakota/Wyoming/Alaska] though the Eastern region proponents are more frequently locked into their own particular state.

The Wyoming's discussion group may be limited to some extent by the particularly dense moderator/founder there, who bears a remarkable resemblance to me, so that may not be a really accurate means of assessing that state's popularity; most of the western proponents hang out on the Montana Yahoo board. But if you'd care to check it out, *Right here it is.*

New Hampshire is a great state, and there is something fitting about the rebirth of liberty being in New England.

I suspect the Porcupines might have more in common with the inhabitants of the 1770s than todays. But you're right about New England as the birthplace of American liberty, and sooner or later, the FSP methodology deserves to be felt there.

They used to ride by the house for 3 days every year. We'd sit out on the porch and comment on the quality of the bikes as they went by. Once one of them stopped to ask directions to a grocery store. A woman, and we estimated she was tougher than most of the riders.

The same can be said of many of the female porcupines I've had the good fortune to meet in person. In their case, it may be dedication or resolve moreso than toughness, but there's likely a good bit of that in the alloy, too. And a few likely would fit in just fine with either crowd.

To the question about why not a southern state I believe it is because they are too heavily populated. The cold north is where less people settle down thus maximizing Free Staters presence.

Speaking of the north how are the winters in Wyoming and Montana? Pretty rugged I hear. The only times I've been through them is spring, summer or fall. I remember seeing snow on the ground in late April. I understand Idaho, though northern is not as bad in the winter as the plain states, know anything about that?

I think one advantage New Hampshire has is having a port, the others are land locked. Also it is closer to civilization and therefore more economically viable for a lot of people. Boondocks living and subsistence farming is not for everyone. Personally I like the NH choice but I do also favor Idaho.

I was a Marine Air-winger, I've been married seven years, and I'm anti-Roe V. Wade. I also consider myself a libertarian.

If you don't know what the heck you are talking about, it is best to say nothing.

Let's see. About 1 percent of the population are libertarians. That is about 3 million. 99% of those would rather associate with the gay socialists in San Francisco rather than NH. That leaves about 3 thousand. Of those 3 thousand, 2999 are too stoned to move.

That leave you.

Liberty, as it is conceived by current opinion, has nothing inherent about it; it is a sort of gift or trust bestowed on the individual by the state pending good behavior.

Two points - first, demographics.

NH is now loaded with Massholes.

Second point - the inevitable tendendy of any group of 10 libertarians to form 20 opinions on any given issue, and the high likelihood that at least 30% will bolt in disgust over the statist tendencies of the dominant group.

It's possible she's still riding, although she would be her 90s now. All that was back in the 50s. She wasn't trying to look bad. She was bad.

The influx on Libertarians might be good news for Jeb Bradley given his enthusiasm for homosexuality, his aversion to military service, his lack of religion and his dedication to abortion.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking the Porcupines are Libertarians, or are necessarily going to swell the ranks of the Libertarian Party chapter of whichever state is eventually picked. That these are libertarian-inclined folks NOT content to sit around and put up with the do-little libertarian groups in their present areas should be your first clue.

I spent my first four years in the army from 1966-70 as an enlisted man, worked as a Department of the Army civilian in the '70s and for the Navy in the '80s, then put on an Air Force blue suit from 1992. And I've run across quite a few other Porcupines with similar or more extensive military backgrounds; I don't think you're likely to find those appreciative of a lack of a military background any more than you'll find many favouring conscription. as for his homosexuality, I figure that if he's so inclined, he should be given the opportunity to pursue it as a full-time profession....

The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.

Freedom, morality, and the human dignity of the individual consists precisely in this; that he does good not because he is forced to do so, but because he freely conceives it, wants it, and loves it.

Have you finally come over to the "self governance" side of the fence? Or are you now going to spin the plain meaning of the words you just posted?

You're suffering from the delusion that Republicans are still conservatives. They hopped off that boat a few years ago.

By "freely conceives", he means some guy with a snappy uniform, shiney boots and a badge told him what to think and do, by "wants", he means, he would like a snappy uniform, too. By "loves it", he's referring to the homoerotic bonding that takes place whenever men in snappy uniforms and badges play dress up together for the purposes of going out and telling other people what to do.
