Republican History Revealed

Posted on 07/23/2003 10:03:09 AM PDT by justshutupandtakeit

In Back to Basics for the Republican Party author Michael Zak (FR's distinguished patriot, Grand Old Partisian) undertakes the heroic and herculean task of clearing the name of the Republican Party from the thicket of lies, distortions and misrepresentations which has been cultivated by the Democrat/media alliance. Since any partisian argument in today's America must begin with the refutation of chronic and consistent lies told about the GOP, Zak's book provides the necessary ammunition to do just that.

This well-written, interesting and enjoyable tour of GOP history can be of use to any patriot who wants to know the truth about the histories of the two major parties. It traces the origins of the GOP to the proto-Republican, Alexander Hamilton, and the Federalists and that of the Democrat Party to its ancestors Jefferson, Clinton and Burr. A brief survery of Federalist and Whig antecedents and policies is sketched to give historic context to events. Since the GOP was created and grew in opposition to the policies and failures of the Democrat Party to extend the benefits of the Constitution to all Americans, that party's history is also examined.

And a sorry history it is. A story of treachery, short-sightedness, racism and economic ignorance unfolds as we see the Democrats consistently for 170+ years fight against allowing the Blacks a chance to achieve full freedom and economic success. Opposition to that fight has defined the best of the GOP's actions. Every advance in Civil Rights for Blacks has come from GOP initiatives and against Democrat opposition. Every setback for Blacks achieving constitutional protection has come from Democrat intitiatives and against GOP opposition. Racists have led the Democrats during most of their history, in sharp contrast to Republicans. All the evils visited against Black are of Democrat design. Democrats created and maintained the KKK, the Jim Crow laws, the Black Codes, it was Democrats lynching Blacks, beating Blacks, exploiting Blacks and perpetrating murderous riots which killed Blacks in

Zak rescues the reputation of the party from the slanders thrown against it during the Civil War and Reconstruction, many of which are popular around FR. He also clearly shows the mistaken disavowal of GOP principles which brought the modern party to its lowest state and allowed the demagogues of Democrats to paint the party as "racist." This was because of the disastrous turn to States' Rights which grew from the Goldwater campaign. It was the final straw in the process which transformed the share of the Black vote from 90-95% GOP to 90% democrat. A modern tragedy of immense proportions.

This is a book which should be studied carefully by Republicans in order to counter the barrage of Lies trumpeted daily by the RAT/media. While it is a work of a partisian, Back to Basics does not hesitate to point to GOP mistakes, failures and incompetence in carrying out its mission nor does it neglect to give Democrats credit when credit is due for actions which are productive of good for our nation as a whole. Unfortunately, those are far too few.

In order to effectively plan for the future we must be fully aware of the past, Zak helps us achieve that awareness.

The Democrat/Conferates of the 1860s have their apologists in the neo-Confederates disguising themselves as Republicans.

Would you prefer Southerners to vote Democrat instead? That would satisfy you, but leave the liberals in charge.

See how you are detremental to the GOP? Stop wasting time on divisive strawman arguments. Neither of you support half of your assertations anyway!

You vastly overestimate the number of southerners today who give a damn about Democrat traitors of the 1860s.

In fact, 200,000 southern blacks and 100,000 southern whites fought for the United States of America while millions of northern Democrats collaborated with their rebel brethren of the Confederacy.

Wow. Maybe 300,000 Southerners sided with the yankees, while MILLIONS of Northerners sided with the Confederacy. That ought to tell you something.

Republicans veneratiing Democrat-rebels of the Confederacy causes immense harm to the Grand Old Party.

NAACP bending your ear? Perhaps that's where we part company, I don't let the PC propaganda dictate my views and I'm in good company with conservative Americans.

Explain why - or is this another baseless assertation.

Well you have to figure they're returning to their true roots, that of abe and the Whigs. Government takes care of all type attitude

Yep. And with the latest neo-recontructionist policies of military expansion/subjugation, socialism, big-government programs, tax-refunds for non-payers, gun control programs, welfare etc. being pushed by so called "republicans", they are not the Reagan/Goldwater/Gingrich/Helms Republicans of a few years ago.

Yes, it does tell you something. The northerners who sided with the Confederates were all Democrats, and the southerners who sided with the United States Government (the blacks and the white Unionists) voted Republican as soon as they could.

... yet give credence to absurdities such as black rebel soldiers

Unfortunately for you many are documented. Pension records, service & Official Records, eyewitness accounts abound the testify to the truth. Even in the Slave Narratives there are accounts of ex-slaves professing to their service to the Confederacy. Those facts might not agree with your mythological assertions, but they are documented, and refute your inane position. You denigrate the memories of those men that fought for their country. Your village is calling.

Nor do I worship the Republican Party. The candidates that favour limited government and abide by the terms of the Constitution will get my vote.

It (FedGov) would have stayed tiny had the Slavers not revolted.

Did you consult your crystal ball before posting that one? LOL!

How many Southerners are in the United States armed forces today?

I believe the figure is ~40% of the total armed forces. That's significantly in excess of the % of the total population which Southerners represent.

What is truly shocking though is not necessarily Southern over-representation in the military but northern regional under-representation. The % of members of the military hailing from New England is unbelievably small.

Yes indeed - those who blindly follow one-party may do so to their detriment. As John Galt pointed out earlier, parties do shift and change policy, but our commitment to soveriegn rule and governing by the Constitution must not change.

Well said!

What it should tell you is that the positions advocated by the Radical Republicans were in the minority. Lincoln barely won re-election, and even then, only without the South voting against him, and the military preventing votes for anyone other than Lincoln. "Beast" Butler bragged about supressing the vote.

Don't say that now!! If that's your policy you won't be voting for Republicans all the time now ;)

I was speaking with an Air Force pilot (from Illinois) this past weekend. He stated that the 'south' was right, and that the north was a liberal bastion that he was glad to escape from. He went on to say that Southerners were far more patriotic and supportive of the military than what he had experienced while serving in the "liberal" North.

Sad, isn't it? We had a party pledged to support & defend the Constitution against all attacks, now many in that party are simply prostituting themselves for votes.

Population Representation in the Military Services.

Excerpt:
Geographic Representation. During the last 15 years, the percentage of recruits from the Northeast and North Central regions has decreased with a corresponding increase in the percentage of recruits from the South and West regions. The geographic distribution of enlisted active accessions for FY 2000 shows that the South, and in particular the South Atlantic and West South Central Divisions of this region, continued to have the greatest representation. More than two-fifths of NPS accessions hailed from the South. In fact, this was the only region to be slightly overrepresented among enlisted accessions compared to its proportion of 18-24 year-olds. The representation ratio (percentage of accessions divided by percentage of 18-24 year-olds from the region) for NPS active accessions from the South was 1.2, compared to 0.8 for the Northeast and North Central and 1.0 for the West.

A more detailed report on geographic representation in the U.S. Military.
