British WW2 documents reveal pro-Nazi mufti of Jerusalem fled to Iraq
Jerusalem Post ^ | Jul. 25, 2003 | DOUGLAS DAVIS

In an eery echo of the British government's current travails, previously unclassified documents have been released in London which recall a proposal more than 60 years ago to fabricate reports about another Hussein in Baghdad.

The documents released by the National Archives show that World War Two foreign secretary Anthony Eden, approved a "whispering campaign" to discredit the pro-Nazi mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Hussein.

The plot was instigated after Hussein fled Jerusalem in 1940 and was granted refuge by Rashid Ali, then-prime minister of Iraq, where British officials feared the mufti was organizing a terrorist campaign against British troops in Palestine.

Concerned about the mufti's popularity in the region, military and diplomatic officials agreed to launch a propaganda campaign against him, revealing his links with Italy from documents supposedly captured in Libya.

But concerns about the possible repercussions of pretending to have stolen papers to support genuine intelligence against the mufti persuaded Eden that there was insufficient proof to make the claim using the false documents, whatever the strength of the proof from elsewhere.

Instead, the Foreign Office decided to launch a "whispering campaign" to highlight the mufti's luxury lifestyle based on money raised from his impoverished subjects, and splits within his "inner circle" over how to wage their military campaign. It was also decided not to kidnap the mufti and return him to Jerusalem for trial.

In a Foreign Office document dated January 7, 1941, Eden supported the plan to discredit the mufti in the Arab world, noting that, "even if he is not a grave danger to our war effort, he is certainly an infernal nuisance."

But the BBC refused to cooperate, prompting ministers to accuse the broadcaster of using a "doubtful" source to break a strict censorship on the mufti's movements after the BBC had broadcast German radio reports "of unknown authenticity" that the mufti had reached southern Italy.

The plan to discredit the Mufti also created unease among civil servants. In December 1940, an official in the Colonial Office told his superiors that, "the sooner we can start debunking him the better."

But he cautioned: "We must avoid any propaganda reference to documents that do not exist and cannot be produced. If we claimed to have found documents which the Italians knew did not exist, we might compromise the source of our information. I feel that we must stick to our original plan of setting the ball rolling by a whispering campaign."

Commenting on Hussein's presence in Iraq, Britain's wartime supremo in India, General Sir Archibald Wavell, said: "He is probably less nuisance in Iraq than elsewhere in the Arab world. Iraqis are a thoroughly unreliable crowd anyhow, and probably better he should continue corrupting them than start elsewhere."

Complicated!

I daresay that the Mufti did go to Iraq, because that was his birthplace, he would have had family there.

The next thing you know, the Brits are going to be in trouble because some of the Propaganda beamed to Nazi Germany didn't have 100% written confirmation.

previously unclassified documents have been released

If they were previously unclassified, then doesn't that mean that they were already released?

Good. The man was an ally of Hitler and supported the Holocaust. He should have been asassinated, really.

Mufti was force behind creation of Waffen SS Hanjar and Waffen SS Skederbeg comprised of Bosnian Muslims and Kosovo Albanians. Yes, Poor innocent Bosnian Muslims and poor innocent Kosovo Albanians

Depicting Serbs ans Nazis in the media opened the doors of depicting Israelis as Nazis.

One of the tragedies of the Balkan conflict is that American Jews have provided moral, financial and political support to those who muredered their own kin. Winning the support of American Jewry was acknowledged as the greatest success for American PR firms and their Muslim clients. But the list of those responsible does not stop here. PR firms were not the sole purveyor of lies.

Without the help of The National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council (NJRAC) as well as Bnai Brith and others, the lies of unrepented Nazis would not have any weight.

Holocaust is unique event in human history. Yet, the majority of American Jewry had no complaint when the word Holocaust was used in Bosnian context. Even worse, there was no outburst of rage when Auschwitz, Treblinka and Birkenau were used in comparisson to non-existing death camps such as Trepca.

NEVER AGAIN was turned into a joke in the news from the Balkans, the most remarkable success for nazi revisionists. Kosovo is JUDENREIN after 2000 years. For Kosovo Jews, NEVER AGAIN is AGAIN AND AGAIN.

For Isralis also. Balkans set the precedent and Muslim lies about "Palestine" reign supreme in world media.

Only "poor little innocent Bosnian Muslims" and "poor little innocent Kosovo ALbanians" is replaced with "poor little innocent Palestinians"

If you don't want to be equated with the Nazis, don't run deathcamps like Omarska.

And if you don't want to be equated with David Irving, don't deny that it happened.

Duh.

Equating Omarska with Belsen IS holocaust revisionism. Equating Trepca with Treblinka is Holocaust DENIAL

Thank you for proving my point, David Irving.

That Omarska pales besides Belsen is not the issue.

That a place like Omarska was ever brought back into existence is.

Who's denying what here DTA?

Serbs needed collection centers where to hold captured enemy soldiers. What's so unusual about that? That's all Omarska was, a collection center for POW's.

I think not.

The Kvocka et al trial and judgement give the lie to your statement.

Commence to whining about the ICTY at this time...

That's funny that the western media (ITN, for example) sent film crews to depict Serbs as Nazi's, and even went so far as to put themselves, the film crew, behind a dilapidated fence (bottom part: chicken wire; top part: a few strands of barbed wire) to project that image.

Yet, even in that footage, there is no trace of blood, bruises, mutilation, disfigurement, nor filth on the men or their clothes. That they showed one real skinny man, Fikret Alic - the skinniest of them all - (and who is alive today, married to a Bosnian woman and with at least one kid) does not prove that he became that way after 9 days there.

If cameras were sent to Bosnian Muslim-Croat torture/beating/death camps for Serbs (Muslims and Croats acting the Nazis again, same as their grandpas and fathers), they'd show bloodied, dirtied, and disfigured men:

Celebic Camp

Tunnel

Around 10 o'clock on June 24, nine men dressed in camouflage uniforms broke into my father-in-law's house. On their heads they wore green berets and introduced themselves as Policemen from the Bosnian Territorial Defense. They took off my wedding ring and wrist watch, handcuffed and blindfolded me and took me to a van in which they had driven to the house. Soon we were in the center of the village. There, two more members of the "green berets" entered; those two beat me up with a metal bar used to clean a mortar...

We made frequent stops to pick up other "green berets". All of them them beat me and M.S. who had been arrested together with me. They knocked out a few of my teeth. They were hitting my arms and legs and using all kinds of things; I was covered with blood.

At about 2:30 p.m. we arrived to Celebic camp, a former Yugoslav Peoples Army base. The two of us were forced to stand against the headquarters building wall. There, we were taken over by the deputy commander, Hazim Delic. He wanted to hear our names. He kicked us both in the ribs several times. Guards took off our blindfolds and pushed us down a manhole. They covered the manhole; they urinated and threw stones on us... We spent 24 hours in that manhole...

Zeljko Milosevic (born in 1961) was murdered on July 19. They found some documents from which they could tell that Zeljko had been trained as a sharp shooter during his military service. That's why they killed him. They beat him, pulled out his tongue, pushed hot nails under his nails, hammered an SDS badge into his forehead. Once they killed him with blows and torture, they left his body in front of the tunnel for 23 days. They took us all out several times to see the body and told us that we would all end up like that.

I had dreamt of bread only for three days. They did not give us food; we were like skin and bones. Exhausted, we would faint several times a day from hunger and beatings. Sometimes they would take us outside to urinate, four of us together. But they wouldn't let us finish: half way through it they woudl start hitting us with a baseball bat on the kidneys... We were beaten by everyone in the camp. Deputy commander, Hazim Delic and Esad Landzo, a.k.a. Zenga were the worst. They called commander Mucic Pavo...

Hangar

There were already 200 people in the hangar, most of them from Bradina. They looked like ghosts. Most of them had bold patches on their scalps. All of them were covered with bruises. They told us that 20 people had been killed before we arrived. The following people were killed during the first seven days of my imprisonment: Simo Jovanovic, Scepan Gotovac, Nedo Milosevic, Bosko Samoukic and Zeljko Klimenta a.k.a. Keljo.

I don't believe anybody here is denying that bad things happened to Serbs in Bosnia or Croatia in the 1990's, Joan - the ICTY has persecuted individuals who committed crimes at Celebici.

There is a reason the ITN team wasn't allowed unsupervised access to Omarska and Trnopolje, Joan - it has to do with Arkan in Bijeljina and Goran Jelisic in Brcko: The Serbs who were working to make greater Serbia didn't do to well with people photographing the actual work of making an ethnically pure state.

Even the dog and pony shows they put on, like the ITN trip to Trnopolje and Omarska smack of German footage of soup kitchens in Warsaw after it was taken - huh, there's that Nazi thing again.

To compare 2 things they must have equal properties, otherwise it is logical fallacy. By implying that Omarska and Belsen differed only in the number of the dead you engage in an act of Holocaust revisionism because this HIDES THE HORRENDOUS NATURE OF BELSEN CONCENTRATION CAMP.

If Omarska was like Belsen on a smaller scale, then Belsen was like Omarska, only on larger scale.

If one is not familiar what BELSEN looked like but trusts your opinion and reads the Omarska judgement to get an idea how Belsen looked like, he or she may draw conclusion that:

1. Belsen was detention camp and there were no children prisoners in Belsen. Anne Frank must be wrong or exageration.

2. Belsen occured during civil war and Jews made concentration camps for Germans the same way Germans made for Jews.

3. Belsen prisoners were fed the same food as German Army, only in smaller quantities and once a day. Starvation and "You don't eat, you don't shit" must be exageration of the British forces.

And so on. The worst part is that your opinion mirrors that of liberal establishment. Really disturbing to think about it - we have Nazi revisionism built into the school curricula.

In 20 years, kids will believe that Jews were taken to the gas chambers in air conditioned busses.

In 50 years, people will say "BELSEN WAS A LIE, JUST LIKE BOSNIA".

That's what liberal lies are all about - about revivng Nazism under another name.

That a place like Omarska was ever brought back into existence is.

Perhaps you should respond to my comments rather than setting up your own little strawmen and gleefully knocking them down.

Let me put it to you this way, in real world terms: That places like Omarska were brought into existence, and the Serb response to their misdeeds at places like Omarska, has played a large part in the decisions to:

1. Restore Croatia's Republic borders at the expense of the RSK.
2. Eliminate the RS as an entity in Bosnia.
3. Ensure that the decision as to whether to stay with Serbia or seceed is left in the hands of Kosovo's populace, with the forseeable results.

That's the real world, DTA, and playing your disingenuous little games here on FR ain't going to change a damn bit of it.

>>>>>That's the real world, DTA, and playing your disingenuous little games here on FR ain't going to change a damn bit of it<<<<

Hoplite, the real world is that the fate of Yugoslavia was sealed in the talks between Reagan and Gorbachew in the waters near Malta.

The real world is while James Baker provided overt support to Yugoslavia, tribal chiefs in Yugoslav republics were being given covert message to seccede from Yugoslavia by the end of 1991 or face economic sanctions.

That is the real world. What you are writing is justification after the fact for those who are too lazy or too stupid to check the facts by themselves.

ICTY admitted that Trnopolje hoax was defining moment to form ICTY. You have audacity to call Trnopolje a trick pulled by the Serbs themselves, like Nazi soup kitchens. You further use the fact that obscure LM magazine was the one who exposed the hoax as a proof of it being Serb propaganda.

Why not quote verdict from LM Libel trial? LM was fined for HURTING PENNY MARSCHAL'S FEELINGS, not for printing a lie. It was demonstrated in court that Trnopolje was a hoax.

Yes, the feeling of forgerer are worth $700,000 in the British court (i.e enough to ruin publisher financially), especially when forgerer works for a company whose owners are Carlton Communications, Granada, Daily Mail & General Trust, United Business Media and Reuters each with a 20% shareholding.

How many times Trnoppolje lie was repeated by ITN parent companies?

That's the real world. What you write is International Relations for Dummies.

So let me summarize your points:

1. It's Reagan and Gorbachev's fault.

2. Economic coercion was used to break apart Yugoslvia, complete with a timeline for secession rather than the same economic factors that rendered the rest of Eastern Europe's economies basket cases by 1990 affecting Yugoslavia.

3. The fact that Living Marxism is... let me repeat that name: Living Marxism, is bankrupt due to their inability to support Diechman's article in court is irrelevant - use of said article can be continued regardless of the fate of said rag, and furthermore, one can lie about the ICTY's findings in regards to Trnopolje as if one read them in a foreign language and it merely translated into the opposite of what it says in English.

Trnopolje was also a notoriously brutal camp, although a few witnesses testified that conditions in Trnopolje were more bearable than in Omarska and Keraterm. Food, water, and hygiene facilities were far less than adequate, and violence was pervasive throughout the camp.

or...

As to the characteristics of the Trnopolje camp, the Trial Chamber obtained no evidence that could lead to the conclusion beyond reasonable doubt that the entire camp was fenced off deliberately as such, although parts of it were enclosed by a pre-existing wall. However, "even if there had been just a line on the ground, nobody would have dared cross it", on account of the fact that the camp was guarded on all sided by the army. There were machine-gun nests and well-armed posts pointing their guns towards the camp.

Ergo - no fence equals Club Med.

Got it, thanks.

I suppose it's pointless to add that some of the 200 odd men murdered on Mt. Vlasic in August of 1992 were taken from Trnopolje - just another fact for you and yours to ignore, distort, or flat out lie about.
