Parents: White Teacher Should Not Teach Black History
NewsNet5 Cleveland/Akron ^ | July 27, 2003

OBERLIN, Ohio -- A group of parents said they will fight a possible decision to allow a white teacher to lead classes in black history at Oberlin High School.

NewsChannel5 reported that the parents said using a white teacher would send the wrong message to black students.

A scheduling conflict could cause the district to reassign the black teacher who has taught the course for seven years.

The parents have protested the move to the school board, but the district's superintendent has not commented on the case.

Why exactly did Ohio feel the need to have black history classes?

Oberlin is the home of Oberlin College, and has been the home of Ohio liberalism for over a hundred and fifty years. Oberlin prides itself on their role in the Underground Railroad, and this kind of attention to "diversity" is very typical of the community.

These guilt-ridden liberals tend to ignore the sacrifice of thousands of white Ohioans in the war that ended slavery as they wear the perpetual hairshit of the "White Racist Oppressors", in order that they may perceive one another as being more enlightened than the rest of us.

"The left is working hard to make socialism a perpetual lock in universities. I can't wait to see what happens when the 60 rejects of the universities finally die or retire."

Don't hold your breath..... The education system in this country can not be saved. It started down the tubes in the late 60s and has gone from bad to worse.
This was all part of the old Marxist plan for subverting us. It is what they did in Cuba, and every other country that they infiltrated.
The old hippie profs from the 60s continue to clone new
Marxist/Socialist.
Just an example, look at the young new environmental "scientist". They do not even think of doing research or looking at facts. They only spew the dogma that they are taught. i.e, "global warming MUST be a result of capitalism".

I pity both the poor, and rich, in this country that continue to send their children off to the cesspools that are called schools.

A "wrong" message is one that might encourage whites to refuse to pander to black racists.

"Liberals" is a very understated word for Oberlin. That school and town is much further Left than "liberal" implies.

Indiana just proposed changing the grading system from ABCDF to 1-2-3. 3 = mastery, 1 and 2 = "needs improvement". Yep. THAT'll save the schools.

(I think I'll have to post that story if I can find it online.)

Is knowledge of Ebonics a prerequisite to the aformentioned history studies?

You must remember that ancient Greek political and economic systems were looted from the Egyptians, who once looted, never recovered the inter-stellar status and accomplishments they once enjoyed. /s

For liberals to get beyond the notion of "black history" and to teach about the contributions of ALL Americans, regardless of race, is to acknowledge that their patronizing ways don't work.

Until we can get beyond that within the public school systems, we won't get away from this notion.

I certainly make sure that my children know that there are good, honest, hardworking people of all stripes from throughout history. I make sure they know of their black ancestry, not to mention their ancestors that were elected to office in the post-Civil War timeframe (Shandy Jones was elected to office in - I think - Alabama in the 1870s or so; he's an ancestor of mine).

Do I only tell them of the good things? Nope. They learn both sides of the coin, good and bad. Certainly what I make sure they know is above and beyond what the politically correct teachers tell them at school.

And surprisingly, She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed and I are among the more popular parents among the teachers at our childrens' schools (well, except for the moronic one when my daughter was in middle school that we called the school board on; scared the living $#!t out of him, too...[g]).

When I read news stories aloud at home, half the time, the teenager looks up and says "That doesn't make sense!"

I smile. She's growing up a fine, conservative that thinks ahead of looking at things emotionally.

You forgot the sarcasm tag.

It would be more of an "irony" tag, really. Interesting that the people the most "sensitive" (i.e., emotionally manipulative) regarding bigotted, racist, and prejudiced actions on the part of others are themselves bigotted, racist, and prejudiced toward others. Ironic, isn't it?

Since race is only a "social construct" how do these parents know that the teacher is the wrong race to teach this precious class?

Oooh. That was very good. Did everyone else (mis-)read that the first time as "hairshirt", as well?

Two thumbs up ... WAY up ... even if it were not a typo.

From link at Drudge:

Phyllis Yarber Hogan, a member of the Oberlin Black Alliance for Progress, said a white teacher wouldn't be well-suited to teaching students about subjects like slavery.

"When you talk about slavery, students need to understand it is not our fault," she said. "Our ancestors did nothing wrong to be enslaved.

"How do you work through that when the person teaching it is the same type of person who did the enslaving?"

If it is not the fault of black folks today that their ancestors were enslaved (which seems reasonable), then it is not the fault of white folks today that their ancestors did the enslaving. How would the reparations lobby feel about this?

God help the teacher who tried to teach white history as a separate course--or the school which limited such a course to being taught by a white person.

By that logic, I guess a black can not teach any sort of European history, or History involving Caucasian Americans...

That's BS. The best professor I had happened to be black. He specialized in the founding.

On the same note, there are several whites I'm sure capable of teaching black history.
