New York to Open First U.S. Public School for Gays

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A school in New York's Greenwich Village will reopen in September as America's first publicly run high school for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, officials said on Monday.

Although The Harvey Milk School has been operating with two classrooms for 20 years, $3.2 million is being spent by the City to expand it to take 100 students. Named after a gay San Francisco politician assassinated in 1978, the school will be funded jointly by the city education department and a gay rights youth advocacy group.

"Everybody feels that it's a good idea because some of the kids who are gays and lesbians have been constantly harassed and beaten in other schools and this lets them get an education without having to worry," Mayor Michael Bloomberg told reporters at his daily briefing on Monday.

But the head of the New York State Conservative Party said the school was a waste of tax dollars.

"This makes absolutely no sense," Long told the New York Post newspaper. "There's no reason these children should be treated separately."

The school's first principal is William Salzman, a former Wall Street executive who has recently worked as an assistant high school principal.

Salzman was quoted in Monday's New York Post as saying, "This school will be a model for the country and possibly the world."

It will specialize in computer technology, art and culinary programs. It will also follow the education department's new mandatory English language and mathematics programs.

Does he realize the amount of lawsuits he has just opened NYC up to with this logic?

Their Football team: The powder puff Rump Rangers...

Riddle me this: How are the NY schools going to handle title 9 issues with this school? Won't they need some token straight kids?

Haha- funny. It said
Interesting article, but a sad day. It is disturbing that ANY school would endorse and promote active sexual behavior, much less such a dangerious and deviant lifestyle.

Maybe it's like the "Million-man math" that used to be advertised on Rush's show.

"It will specialize in computer technology, art and culinary programs."

Sounds like some vicious stereotypes are at work here and that the school is assuming that gays are more likely than other students to be interested in art and cuisine. To break down these stifling stereotypes, the school should instead emphasize shop, physical education, and auto mechanics.

So how will hazing work at this school? Will the bullies tease the smaller kids by calling them straight?

This is a perfect opportunity to use, either, vouchers for the use of the school, or force it to be funded by the parents of the students. If they can't cover religious schools, then they shouldn't cover something that is not defined in the Constitution. Additionally, no music, sports, or theater classes should be offered because that is what the main schools are taking out to save money. There should be a complete stoppage of the, I'm sorry, teaching of deviate sex in the public schools as if they are separating them, straight people don't need the instruction. There's a lot more.........

Cheer, cheer, for we are all dames,
Nuts to the tests, just bring on the games.
Sure all our jocks may have limp wrists,
But they fight for the puce and mauve.

With apologies to the Notre Dame fans and their fight song.

A New York gay school named after a San Francisco gay politician operated by taxpayer funds. Just another way for queers to access the youth for brainwashing.

"What about a school for skinny, smart guys with big glasses? They get picked on. They could use their own school."

We have them in New York City, actually a few specialized science high schools. Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech.

This infiltration and propaganda effort in the NYC public schools has been going on for a while, courtesy of The Hetrick-Martin Institute. Is that is why this new school has so much money: private funds from rich homosexuals? If so, isn't that illegal? Can't really figure it out from the Harvey Milk School page:

The Harvey Milk School, a collaborative effort between The Hetrick-Martin Institute and the New York City Department of Education’s Career Education Center Alternative High School Program, is the nation's first accredited public high school designed to meet the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth (LGBTQ).

It must be really confusing around there when it comes time for the ladies choice dance.

Harvey Milk, wasn't he the guy killed because of a twinkie or something like that?
