Professor Daniel Pipes Under Fire!
30, July 2003 | Me

Posted on 07/30/2003 2:26:16 PM PDT by Salem

Professor Daniel Pipes        Dear Valued FRiends and Peers,

Professor Daniel Pipes, Director of the Middle East Forum and publisher of Militant Islam Comes To America, has been nominated by President George Bush to the United States Institute of Peace. Most people here know his credentials. This nomination, when brought up in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, "failed to reach a quorum," under pressure by Islamic activist groups like The American Muslim Council (AMC), the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), and Democrat collusion.

These extremist Islamic interest groups are avowed enemies of Mr. Pipes, and engaged in a concerted campaign to see this nomination derailed -- another example of the direct threat to our way of life and freedom; modeling the intellectual tyranny which is synonymous with militant Islam. FREE REPUBLIC is the antidote to this campaign.

Daniel Pipes is real close to becoming another victim of that tyranny!

We cannot let this stand. The congressional elements of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee need to be contacted immediately, as well as letters and calls of support for this nomination to President Bush. These people, especially the Chairman of the committee, Senator Gregg, need to see a growing stack of letters in the week ahead, as well as phone calls and faxes. If you have to, copy the letter I recently sent to President Bush below, print it out, and send it. They count the number of letters more than the content. All it takes is a the price of a stamp.

The petition in support of this nomination of Daniel Pipes has acquired more than 6300 signatures at this point. These signatories, most who voiced strong approval for Mr. Pipes, as well as all of you, are the ones Mr. Pipes needs, today, to stand on his behalf. He has stood on all our behalf, in the almost two years since the treacherous and cowardly attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, in wisdom, patience, and dignity, clarifying exactly who the enemy is we are fighting.

Unless militant Islam is defeated in the global intellectual and social arena, we can be assured our military husbands and wives, sons and daughters, and friends, will be spending many years in the future dealing with this totalitarian ideology on the front lines. Dr. Daniel Pipes is the pointman in that particular counter-terrorism campaign of defeating it in the arena of the WAR OF IDEAS!.

It was Todd Beamer, on board United Airlines Flight 93, who uttered the call, "Let's Roll!" It was a phrase President Bush repeated soon after to dispatch American military might to the other side of the globe to finally face this dangerous threat. Daniel Pipes life work is just another aspect of that campaign. But he needs our help!

SO LET'S ROLL! Let these people know America supports and wants Daniel Pipes in this position!

From the website of the U.S. Institute of Peace:
The United States Institute of Peace is an independent, nonpartisan federal institution created by Congress to promote the prevention, management, and peaceful resolution of international conflicts. Established in 1984, the Institute meets its congressional mandate through an array of programs, including research grants, fellowships, professional training, education programs from high school through graduate school, conferences and workshops, library services, and publications. The Institute's Board of Directors is appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate.

Sorry, but I can't get passionate about someone's appointment to an absolutely worthless taxpayer-funded organization. If anything, members of Congress will get an e-mail from me asking them to eliminate the position altogether.

And the fact you don't mind the wasteful spending of money for an organization that isn't covered under the Constitution suprisingly isn't shocking. And yes it bothers me somewhat it is yet another PNAC lackey to be given a government job, considering especially that by its very inception statement the PNAC could care less about the Constitution and more about 'American leadership'

an absolutely worthless taxpayer-funded organization

I was wondering how long it would take someone to figure that out. The very existence of this thing is a Liberal victory.

And maybe that's as good a reason as any for not letting them run it completely. Why not confirm Pipes?

>>I agree - shut it down. That's what we have a State Department for<<

Our State Department and CIA intelligence have sat back for 13 years, while the Saudi-funded, Wahhabi death-cult has colonized the United States with mosques, schools, and terrorist-front groups. In fact, the last I checked, photos of many Wahhabi extremists were displayed on the State Department Web page entitled, 'Muslims in America,' or something like that.

Pipes bases his views on the facts documented by reliable sources. He is as fair and even-handed in his views as anyone anywhere. What a refreshing approach! Because Pipes is so very credible and reliable, it scares those who would rather see the anti-Democratic forces succeeding against America. That what the campaign against him is all about.

I would like to, with much pomp and fanfare, officially close this thread. All thanks and gratitude to every hardcore regular FReeper who took the time to contact any and all particulars who were instrumental in putting Pipes into this position, after such opposition to it from the enemies of America.
