Two young women in the village of Gambell narrowly escaped serious injury one night recently when they used a cigarette lighter to check the fuel level in a four-wheeler's tank while stealing gasoline at the village's fuel depot, Alaska State Troopers said Wednesday.

I knew a guy who was going to cut the little unleaded ring out of his gas tank with an acetylene torch so he could use regular gasoline in it.
Amazingly, someone stopped him.

Incredible. Soaked with fuel and they survive a dipstick move like using a lighter to check the fuel tank.
They had better be careful, they just used up a lifetime of luck and they have none left.

"Anytime your clothes are wet with gas and your clothes are on fire, you're walking a thin line," Barrick said.
Alcohol apparently was not involved, troopers said. No, just stupidity.

One of the guys in high school was going to lift his truck 6", and the gas tank was in the way.
He cut the rusted bolts holding the gas tank up with the torch in the school shop, and somehow didnt blow it up.
The shop teacher figured out what he had done & gave him an ass kicking right there in the shop.
(that was back when teachers could get away with that)

What's the difference between "just Damn" and "Hold muh Beer"?"Hold muh beer" is what your friendly neighborhood moron says. "Just damn" is what you or I say when we hear about it...
Actually, the name changed 'cause there were more just plain bizarre stories that had crept into the story mix.

I stopped an employee where I work who was headed outside with a propane torch to unthaw the top of an underground 2000 gallon fuel tank so he could dip the measuring ruler into it.
I asked what he was doing and when he told me I asked if I could move my work truck a couple of blocks away first.
Amazingly this fellow was older than me and had grown up working at his fathers filling station.
He turned ghost white when he realized how close he came to going boom. Just a lucky break for him I was headed in the door as he was headed out to the refuling area.
