Hello Fellow Freepers I was wondering if any of you NH residents knew the requirements for a private citizen to obtain a pistol permit in the state? I am currently a Mass pistol permit holder but it is not for all lawful purposes.(basically i can purchase pistols/rifles and ammo but am only allowed to carry it in a locked container to and from target shooting areas). I was also wondering if your laws regarding this are similar to Mass as well and if not what i had to do to obtain one when i relocate up there. Thanks in advance

You guys need a permit to buy long guns and ammo?
To: DM1
To purchase a firearm you just fill out the BATF form. No state permits are required. Ammo, nothing required.
For a conceal carry permit you fill out a simple 1 page form and pay a few bucks ($25 if I remember correcty). I got my CCW in about 2 days. The officer delivered it to the house personally (apparently that's part of the deal). Good for 4 years.
I think NH permits are now good in about 8 states. Unfortunately I never go to any of them save Florida once in a while.

for your CCW do you have to express a direct need for it? i think i would be ok with a Mass license but one never knows.

I think the form did have a question on why. Normal answer is self defense. "Robbing stores" would probably be a non-good answer.

Thanks
The only reason i ask is that "self Defense" is not good enough in Mass and is usually rejected out of hand.

Probably not much is good enough. Get out of there and come up to NH.
