Homelessness in major cities is escalating as more laid-off workers already living paycheck-to-paycheck wind up on the streets or in shelters.

As Americans file for bankruptcy in record numbers and credit card debt explodes, more workers are a paycheck away from losing their homes. Now the frail economy is pushing them over the edge. With 9 million unemployed workers in July, the face of homelessness is changing to include more families shaken by joblessness.

You are right. A lot of this is due to poor life choices. I couldn't help but notice the family with four children who lost everything when the husband lost his job.

If you're going to have that many children, you certainly should build up some savings.

Duncan Hunter tried to pass a bill that would require DoD to make 65% of its purchases from American companies. Rumsfeld advised Bush not to sign it. Apparently, we have become very dependent upon other nations for our defense.

Homelessness like this, child, has not been a problem for decades. It has gotten to be a major problem in the past three years as manufacturing has collapsed due to "free trade" policies. Last time I checked, mayors did not control international trade policy. Free traitors would always boast that these were jobs America could afford to lose, never wondering what happenned to the people who lost them. Well, this is what happens.

Maybe when you are old enough to shave you will be able to contribute something to this board.

How's this the President's job?

This is the Presidents job because of several reasons. First he is entrusted with teh enforcement of the laws through the attorney general who reports to him. There have been no prosecutions for perjury for those employing guest workers in violation of the law. Sworn statement no American is available for the position. Illegal immigrants work in the USA openly. The executive branch of government of which the president is the chief officer is charged with conducting foreign policy and that branch has continued subsidies for overseas investment, it has sponsored continuation of MFN status for China even though through currency manipulation, tariffs and non tariff barriers China has repeatedly engaged in predatory trade practices in the USA.

I note there were 30,000 new H1B visas approved so far this year. many of these were in IT. this industry already has over 100,000 unemployed and the rules of teh H1B visa program state an empoyer must swear there are no Americans available for the job.

These are jsut some of the reasons that GWB had better get to work to take this issue away from the Democrats or else we will eb stuck with RAT rule. I personally do not wish to see that.

I think you misunderstand my point.

Henry Ford's idea of paying his workers well enough that they could buy the cars they made was a marvelous one, but I can assure you that this idea would have gone nowhere if he also had to pay a myriad of overhead costs that had nothing to do with the production of automobiles.

So which is it? Are you mad because the President won't listen or because he won't find jobs for people???? Like I said, it's not the President's job to make sure you get a job, to search for a job for you, or to make sure you have the proper training and c ertification for jobs.
