Note to Arnie-bots: If Arnold is a "Fiscal Conservative", so is Howard Dean
Various | August 13, 2003 | nwrep

Posted on 08/13/2003 6:08:57 PM PDT by nwrep

The self-delusion of some star-struck conservatives here is stunning. In the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, they insisted Arnold was a fiscal conservative, just because he said so. This arrogant proclamation, with no evidence to back it up, was enough for these Arnold-bots.

Then today, he dropped a bomb-shell and declared tax-loving, Hillary Clinton supporter Warren Buffett as his economic advisor. When faced with such repudiation of their fantasy, one expects most people to concede their mistake. But not the Arnie-bots. They still insist Arnold is a conservative, just because he has chosen a billionaire to head his economic team. Apparently, to these Arnie-bots, conservatism is a hollow concept, to be equated with the acquisition of wealth. Never mind that some of the most prominent backers of the anti-capitalist, anti-American, anti-conservative group Moveon.org are self-made billionaires.

This mental capitulation to a Hollywood celebrity reminds me of grandmothers from Florida visiting Hollywood's Rodeo Drive and becoming speechless with awe and admiration at the ostentatious display of wealth there.

Before these Freepers go too far and over the cliff in their fanatical devotion to Arnie Kennedy Jr., they would do well to acquaint themselves of some important positions of Warren Buffett:

Warren Buffett Picks Hillary for Senator

Warren Buffett Slams Dividend Tax Cut

Warren Buffett's Stupid Economics

Is Buffett Hazardous To Your Wealth?

Warren Buffett Despises Nuclear Weapons

Warren Buffett Opposes Estate Tax Repeal

So, now that there is more sobering evidence to the contrary, will these Arnie supporters bow to reason and back a real conservative, like Tom McClintock? One can only hope.

Or they would be left, with the logical extension of their trust in words and not deeds, in the unenviable position of defending the fiscal conservatism of one Howard Dean, Jr.

None of us was under the delusion Arnold was ever a conservative. So I'm not shocked by today's news. I would have been hopping mad if Arnold had been a conservative candidate. So this is a development I take in stride. And granted, Buffett's a big name and a liberal Democrat but it doesn't change in the slightest the dynamics of the race here in California.

Has Arnold even pledged not to raise taxes if elected?

Arnold is probably the only Democrat (opps, sorry, he is a "Republican") who can get away with raising taxes. The Liberal media will praise him for rising above his party and being a "statesman."

Well, in defense of nwrep, he or she is in Oregon, where many Californians who couldn't take it any more have escaped to.

Mr. Inspectorette and I are still here on the Central Coast, still in love with what California used to be and wondering if it ever will be again. We haven't given up hope yet, but we have family in Oregon and Washington State, and they're beckoning to us to move up there.

OTOH, Oregon and Washington State are starting to have the same problems that we have here in California - liberal politicos, pandering to illegals, enviro-whackos, etc., etc., etc.

are you trying to be funny? Steve Forbes liberal?????? Have you ever even read Forbes? And what's wrong with Art Laffer???

I was being sarcastic. Of course they're conservative, perfect counterweights to Buffett. They take all the air out of this thread.

In an objective view: I think whether Arnold is trying to do it or not, he's making the term "Republican" not such a dirty word. If Arnie, with some of his misunderstandings, makes people at least start considering some conservative issues (wrong angles as some may be), he gets the ball rolling and people check out some thoughts they had always been ideologically against and as many of us "recovering liberals" can attest to, we "start seeing the light." It's that light that allows us to find other light switches that allows us to see other doors that allows us to be more honest about that idea that government has a role but "tread lightly!"

That beef may already be on the grill. Financier Warren Buffett, a close friend of Mr. Schwarzenegger's, is providing advice on economic development. Friends of Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman are urging him to appear in a commercial for Mr. Schwarzenegger, much as he did for Proposition 13 a quarter century ago. Mr. Schwarzenegger has been quoted as saying that for years his favorite Christmas present for friends was Mr. Friedman's book ''Free to Choose.'' Other prominent economic figures who are talking with Mr. Schwarzenegger about a role in the campaign include Steve Forbes, Larry Kudlow, Art Laffer and Steve Moore of the Club for Growth. This week, Bob White, the former chief of staff for Gov. Pete Wilson, took over the campaign's reins as senior manager. Mr. White has extensive experience in formulating public policy, which is unusual for a campaign manager.

Why doesn't Arnold simply release an issues statement.

Will he raise taxes?

Will he cut spending?

Will he support homosexual marriage?

What is his stance on abortion?

Immigration, illegal and legal?

Drivers licenses for illegals?

As a casual observer who doesn't live in California, how could you decide on a candidate to vote for without knowing where he stands?

Or perhaps I'm all wet but from the interviews I heard Arnold didn't answer a single one of these questions when asked.

Its seems to be a well balanced economic team split between conservatives, libertarians, and a liberal. So what's the fuss all about?

I have no idea..... However my guess is that is what he's putting a team together for.... To put together a campaign organization, provide position statements, look at government needs, etc.

If you really need an answer you may try writing his campaign headquarters... Remember he has just gotten in the race within the past few days... He definitely starts out behind seasoned politicans that have spent years developing campaign rectoric.....

Don't forget that other "liberal", Stephen Moore of the Club for Growth . I applaud Arnold for reaching out to economic experts of all stripes,to help him find the best way to pull CA out of the ditch. Each expert is probably offering discrete advice in the areas of their own particular expertise.

The self-delusion of some star-struck conservatives here is stunning.

Rush Limbaugh has been drumming this for 3 days and he has been quoted in all the major newspapers. Do you think the Buffet thing is some new big deal? Why blast freepers for something everyone but you, apparently, knew?

I'm a conservative who isn't a celebrity worshipper. We're all aware that Arnold's not a conservative. If he misled us, that would be one thing. There's no earthly reason for people to get excited about him being someone he's not. Q.E.D.

Steve Forbes is also on the Arnold team. Is he a RINO, too? Or is he now your enemy because he is not as PURE as you? The real RINOs are people that vote Third Party or sit home allowing RATS to get elected. Period.

The bottomline position is that any Republican will be better than any Democrat for the future of CA. Whom ever is elected will have their hands full and may not be entirely successful, so why strap that on a true conservative and damage the conservative movement? Besides, Arnold has the best chance to be elected.

Buffet thinks the rich are undertaxed. Maybe he is right. In any event, California is in the forefront of solving this problem even without Buffet, because apparently the car tax is going to transmute (pending litigation, everything is litigated, which is what makes America great), into a higher top bracket rate with respect to the California income tax (from 9.3% to 11%).

THEY HAVE NO SHAME

When it's Barney Frank or some other liberal supporting these perverted liberal ideas such as, same sex marriages, gay rights, gay adoption and gun control it's a no good, corrupt, immoral assH***s. But, Now that it's the same type running as a Repubilcan things look much different.

This is exactly the same mind set and how we ended up with a Supreme Court that perverted the country and done more damage than the libs could have ever thought of.

Morals do count. In fact, It's Moral judgements that balance budgets also. For the good of the rest of this country we should INCLUDE social morals along with the Fiscal policies you are all worried about.

Moral people can balance a budget better than immoral ones.

AM I from CA, (AKA Mexico) Hell no I wouldn't live in that Moral cesspool for all the money in the world. Do I care Yes, I care for the rest of the country that has to watch this stinking decay.
