[history]
The Tri-State Chapter of the Free Republic is sponsoring a get together for Freepers in the Tri-State area and elsewhere. We will be meeting at the famous NJ Restaurant, Rutt's Hut, a landmark for decades, in the Delawanna Section of Clifton, NJ at 1:30 PM. September 13th Get ready for the best hot dogs you ever ate (lots of other stuff on the menu too). We will have our own room.
Afterwards, there will be a motor trip to the Great Falls, in Paterson, NJ. The only requirement that we ask is that you freepmail Firebrand if you plan on attending; we need to keep out the interlopers and disruptors like this person Here from spoiling our day. It will be a pleasure to finally meet all of you. If you have any questions or comments please freepmail Firebrand .

It's a goldmine. The original owner must have bribed the state officials and politicians big time. That whole strip on river road contained many stores and restaurants which were bought out through eminent domain and demolished for Route 21 and the entrance ramps to route 3. Rutt's was the only one allowed to stand and if you ever go there take notice that the entrance ramps to route 3 were actually built around the restaurant!

Aaaah. RUTT'S HUT. Proudly clogging N.J. arteries for more than 80 years. Or is it 60? Shucks, I can't remember. Nevertheless, a good stop before or after a Jets game.

Great thread, Coleus.
There are other things on the menu besides hot dogs. Looky here!
One NJ freeper goes there for the chili. I can swear by the onion rings.
I think it must be 80 years, not 60--in any case, it is an institution.
Notice the Taylor Ham on the menu. Part of traditional New Jersey cuisine.
To: firebrand
yum yum, I'm getting hungry.
Yes, their menu contains the typical diner food and not just rippers and wellers. I like the onion rings myself, they are home made and taste great!

I remember Rutt's Hut from over forty years ago.
Make it on Sunday!!!....Make it on Sunday!!! Make it on Sunday!!!Make it on Sunday!!!Make it on Sunday!!!Make it on Sunday!!!
Did I mention I have to work on Saturdays???
To: Focault's Pendulum
We seriously considered Sunday, but we had to make it early because of the waterfall trip, and it would have interfered with too many people's church services.
Next one on Sunday. Maybe the big December party?
To: firebrand
Next one on Sunday. Maybe the big December party? Thanks for the reply and the Freepmail. I just gotta make one of these gatherings one of these days.
I would have taken the time off but I'm starting with a new company the beginning of that week, and not sure how well it would go over asking for a day off after having working there four days.
Okay! Who wants to start the Focault Brass Balls Pool???

This thread isn't going anywhere....I knew it should have been Sunday.
To: Coleus
My family would go to Rutts hut twice a month when I was a kid (early 60s). We watched the highway being built. When I got my learners permit my Dad let me drive from Kearny to Rutts hut (about 10 miles) up Rt.21. That was the best hotdog I ever had. Great onion rings too.

Too late to change it now. Keep protesting, though. Each time it bumps the thread. : )

I was always more of a Hot Grill person...but I do like Rutt's!!!!
To: JOE6PAK; Coleus
I remember being promised that we would visit Rutt's Hut one Sunday evening after we were finished visiting. Then came an invitation to stay for dinner. You never saw such disappointed kids.
Of equal nostalgia value: Knoll's Farm to get ice cream, and you could actually smell the cows while you ate your ice cream cone.

To: firebrand
I spoke to Rutt....he said you people are confused..it's really on for Sunday.
I'm trying to figure out why I keep bumping this thread when I'm not even going.
To: Focault's Pendulum
Hey! Don't confuse people! IT'S SATURDAY!!!!
To: NYCVirago
I'm so glad you're going. How will you get there?
To: firebrand; Coleus
I am so in for this. My kids could experience their first Rippers. It's too bad we didn't wait a month though, the newTarget's around the corner is opening in October. We could have made it a field trip, lol!
To: RepubMommy; Coleus; Doctor Raoul; NYCVirago; Exit148; RaceBannon
We are looking for people who can pick up the four NYC people who are taking the Weehawken ferry.
To: Coleus; firebrand
I AM SO PISSED OFF! I can't take off work that day, although I will be done around 7.

Call in sick. Or do you have Sunday off? At least one person wants to make a weekend out of it.
To: Coleus; firebrand
Looks like an interesting idea for our Chapter gathering, but I'm afraid we can't make it due to some previously-made plans.

Question for ya. What the heck did that dingbat named "antiwar supporter" mean when she said she wasn't a "unimerican hippie?" Any English professors care to tell me what being "unimerican" means??

I don't know, he came on to troll, left his message and never posted again. Who knows.

This is the party
To: All
Rutt's is a nice restaurant, as well as a hot dog stand. In the back of the counter room are big rooms with tables, and the menu is fantastic: four kinds of steak, pork chops, roast chicken and duck.
For seafood, there are fish & chips, scallops, calamari, clam strips, and every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, fresh fish comes in, and they have several types of grilled fresh fish, as well as fresh stuffed fillet of sole.
Just a thought for those who are not fans of the hot dog and other fast food.
To: firebrand
Count us in. My wife and I will be there for the action.
And thanks for all your work!
