[history]
Get ready to fly at 186 mph.
Want to soar like an eagle? Then go with a parasail or a hang glider. But for those who dream of screaming through the air like a superhero, there's the Skyray - a solid, triangular, carbon-fiber contraption that lets skydivers shoot above the clouds at 186 mph for two exhilarating minutes. That's quadruple the air time of the usual free fall and almost twice the speed of the world's fastest bird, the spine-tailed swift.

One blast from that, and the counter-thrust would halt the would-be birdman in the air, and he'd drop like a stone.

Then they jump at night, then they train for HALO.
It would be wild to have a slightly larger one for a trooper with a SAW.

Big deal. Human lunacy has gone from jumping out of a perfectly functioning airplane and plumeting to earth like a sack-o-meat, to jumping out of a perfectly funtioning airplane like a sack-o-meat with minimal horizontal directional control.
Kind of like the evolution of throwing rocks to throwing darts.

Ah Ft Benning where the Army takes 6 hours of training and crams it into 3 weeks.

One blast from that, and the counter-thrust would halt the would-be birdman in the air, and he'd drop like a stone. Okay then, how about a recoiless rifle, some sort of RPG, or any rocket powered ordinance?

The first three shots, your forward velocity goes to zero and you stall out.
